Hennepin Healthcare is Hiring a Client Services - Community Engagement Coordinator Near Brooklyn, MN

Position SummaryThe Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage with the community and increase awareness of our organization's services as well as community resources. The successful candidate will work closely with the Client Services team to ensure that our clients receive the best possible support and assistance. They are also responsible for coordinating direct service programs and education.
Primary ResponsibilitiesFamily Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM)Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM) accounts, also known as an Individual Development Account (IDA), enable participants to escape poverty and achieve wealth through asset acquisition. FAIM is a matched savings project that helps Minnesota resident low-wage earners build assets within the state through purchase of a first home, pursuit of post-secondary education, start or expansion of a small business and purchase of a personal vehicle.
Key functions:
  • Primary contact with FAIM partners.
  • Complete all trainings required and relevant to FAIM.
  • Promote FAIM across the organization and as a resource to community members.
  • Program coordination and enrollment of participants.
  • Data base management.
  • Manage participant files and monitor participants progress towards goals.
  • Oversight of documentation.
OutreachOrganize and participate in community events and activities to promote our organization's services, and build and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and individuals to increase support and participation in our organization's programs.
Key functions:
  • Participate in outreach and education with current partners and future partners.
  • Take part in civic engagement activities and represent CAP-HC (i.e., voter registration, attend community events, connect individuals to resources in the community, MNsure application services, etc.)
  • Create and distribute marketing materials to promote our organization's services.
  • Share working knowledge of the Community Engagement Coordinator key functions and program information with CAP-HC colleagues and partners.
  • Complete FAIR training and stay up to date on the program.
  • Primary contact for the Prepare Prosper team; communicate on a regular basis.
  • Promote FAIR across the organization and share FAIR as a resource to community members.
  • Other responsibilities and projects when opportunities arise.
FAIR is the next effort by Prepare Prosper and its partners to help low- to moderate-income people achieve financial health and wealth. Partnering with Sunrise Banks, N.A., Member FDIC, Prepare Prosper work together with consumers to build the FAIR Financial Solution, designed to meet people where they are. Their goal is financial inclusion for all.Getting Ahead ProgramThis transformative program equips individuals facing poverty with the knowledge, tools, and connections to make a real difference in their lives and communities. The program encourages participants to delve deep into their own experiences of poverty and explore the community's poverty-related issues, from banking and housing to job opportunities and transportation. "Getting Ahead" places concepts, tools, and valuable relationships directly into the hands of individuals facing poverty, empowering them to transform their lives and contribute to the betterment of their communities.
Key functions:
  • Complete all trainings required and obtain certification for the Getting Ahead Program.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the program using the curriculum Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World, including scheduling, outreach, and marketing.
  • Enroll participants and manage files.
  • Promote Getting Ahead across the organization and share the Program as a resource to community members.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned (i.e., voter registration)
VITA Program (annually, November through April)The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides free tax assistance to income-eligible individuals and families. IRS tax law-certified volunteers prepare and e-file federal, state, and property taxes. The VITA Coordinator is responsible for recruiting volunteer tax preparers, hosting tax preparation events & clinics, and managing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Computer Loan Program.
Key functions:
  • Primary contact for VITA Program and partner agencies.
  • Attending new and/or refresher tax law training and certification as needed, including the use of electronic filing software; Successfully pass a test on required tax law knowledge.
  • Provide free basic tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers.
  • Regular data entry with the Stakeholder, Partnerships, Education & Communication (SPEC) system.
  • Volunteer recruitment and training; oversight of volunteer certification.
  • Coordinate and facilitate tax preparation events & clinics.
  • Manages all processes related to VITA and the Computer Loan Program.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client information and ensuring high-quality returns by completing a quality review process on returns completed.
Skills, Competencies & Knowledge Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science field or related area.
  • Must complete the following all trainings and certifications within the first 90 days, which includes: Site Coordinator, Volunteer Standards of Conduct (Ethics), VITA training Intake/Interview & Quality Review, any additional training required by the IRS, and Bridges Out of Poverty and Group Facilitator training provided by Getting Ahead. Tax training and certification support will be provided (e.g., 2-8 hours of self-directed study for tax certification and 4 hours for electronic filing software training).
  • Possess strong organizational qualities and confidence, with excellent written and spoken communication.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in community engagement and outreach.
  • Ability to analyze data and report on results.
  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and customer service.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to multitask with several project details at once.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management systems.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
  • Master’s degree.
  • Two to five years conducting outreach, community engagement, case management or non-profit experience.
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotional strategies.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Recruiting volunteers.
  • Supervising employees or volunteers.
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish or Somali.
  • Professional and/or lived experience working with individuals from underrepresented and marginalized communities or households defined as low income.
  • Experience providing case management, including skills assessment, and developing action/goal plans.
  • Experience group facilitating adult education/training programs.
Work Environment and Expectations: Physical Requirements. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances. Exerting up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • A hybrid work schedule may be available after 90 days.

This position is full-time hourly, and the pay range is $26-$29. The salary is based on like experience, skills, education, and training.
