This is for a current college level student (Junior or Senior). This internship is for the fall of 2024 and it is for academic credit. If you cannot earn academic credit as a requirement or an elective for your program, you are not eligible for this opportunity. Intern(s) will start on between August 19-26, 2024 to align with the start of the semester (depending on the student's program requirements and school schedule).
This is an internship position for college students who will work with Community Corrections to perform administrative and technical work in support of probation services staff in the Community Corrections Program; conduct office visits with offenders and make referrals for services; document offender progress into PRCC database; does related work as required.

Essential Duties
Case Management Technician Intern II - This is an internship for academic credit for the fall of 2024 for current college students who are enrolled in a program that requires or allows for an internship that is for academic credit. If you cannot earn academic credit, you are not eligible for this position.
Desired Area of study: Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Administration, and Public Policy
Desired GPA: 2.50 or better
Desired Student: Junior or Senior
Start Date: August 19- 26, 2024 (depending on the student's program requirements and school schedule).
Work Hours: Monday - Thursday, up to 7 hours each day depending on student schedule. We remain flexible.
Work Location: Community Corrections, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive, Henrico, VA 23228
This is an internship position for college students who will work with Community Corrections to perform administrative and technical work in support of probation services staff in the Community Corrections Program; does related work as required.
An intern in this class performs basic case management tasks to support probation officers and supervisors. Primary duties will be to provide office support to officers and assist with supervision of low risk/need clients as assigned. The intern will assist with the intake process by gathering information regarding criminal history, residence stability, employment history, and ties to the community. Duties will include entering information in the automated Pretrial/Community Corrections database and on spreadsheets. Work is performed under supervision of the Probation Services Supervisor.
Examples of work:
  • Supports Officers by filing paperwork, entering data in automated database, contacting providers and meeting with clients as needed;
  • Monitors low risk/need clients' progress with court ordered conditions;
  • Assists with the intake process for defendants/offenders placed by the Court;
  • Assist making referrals to community service and treatment providers, and receiving, accepting, and assigning transfer cases from other programs;
  • Directly observes and tests clients for alcohol and illegal substances;
  • Collects and processes fee payments and generates receipts;
  • Accesses the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) database (upon certification) to process criminal history requests;
  • Enters documentation on each client in automated database and files paperwork in hardcopy file;
  • Writes reports to the Court regarding client's status;
  • Assist with case reviews and closures;
  • Captures and enters data on Excel Spreadsheets; Provides back-up clerical support as needed;
  • Processes court sensitive information expeditiously and accurately disseminates information imparted from customers;
  • Regular and reliable work attendance;
  • Performs related work as assigned; flexible work schedule to meet department needs.
Strong foundational knowledge in a field relevant to internship; excellent interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience of County employees and citizens integral to the internship; excellent organization and research skills with the ability to collect and organize facts/tasks effectively; excellent attention to details; excellent knowledge of and familiarity with computer systems with demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer and common software products (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point); ability to multitask and manage priorities; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a team; and ability to meet assigned deadlines.
Internships are intended to complement the student's academic program so the intern must bring foundational knowledge as well as a strong interest in the assigned department's mission and operations and be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. The intern will receive training relevant to the assigned responsibilities, clear direction regarding expectations and feedback concerning their performance. Interns will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of the operations of the assigned department as well as broad basic skills and industry knowledge. Internships may include extensive public contact. Internships may be an integral part of a team or may require the intern to work more independently. The intern will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have opportunities to network with department leaders and other professionals in the internship field.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Pursuing a college degree in a field relevant to internship or post-secondary vocational/technical training in a trade or craft that is relevant to the internship; GPA of 2.50 or better; prefer a college student in the junior or senior year of the relevant degree program;
Experience: Completion of courses in relevant degree or vocational/technical program; relevant job or volunteer experience;
Or: Any equivalent combination education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the internship.
