GENERAL SUMMARY:Under limited supervision performs routine techniques on surgical, autopsy, andresearch tissue according to standardized procedures. Operates and maintainslaboratory instruments and equipment required to perform analysis.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Cuts surgical, autopsy, research and neuropathology tissue using a rotarymicrotome.2. Embeds surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.3. Stains, coverslips and labels surgical, autopsy, research and neuropathologytissue.4. Under supervision, performs special stains according to standardizedprocedures.5. Maintains all equipment and instruments. May demonstrate work to helponboard others.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:1. (a.) Completion of an Associate’s Degree with coursework in Anatomy, Biology,and/or Chemistry, OR(b.) Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program in medical technology, medicallaboratory sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, orBiology, OR(c.) A high school diploma or GED with two years of relevant laboratoryexperience in a work, academic, or volunteer capacity.2. Coursework completed outside of the US must be verified as by a NACESapproved credential evaluation service.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:1. HT(ASCP) certification preferred
