Bi-Vocational Youth Pastor

Heritage Bible Church has been serving Bakersfield since 1910. Attached to the church is Heritage Christian Schools a private Pre-K through 8th Grade Christian school.

The mission of Heritage Bible Church is to impact our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ through deep and engaging spiritual formation practices. We commit to investing our time together, nurturing new and maturing believers through prayer, worship, fellowship, and discipleship.

The Youth Pastor is primarily responsible for fulfilling, training, discipling, and developing the junior high and high school ministries (6th-12th grade).

Ministry Responsibilities

It is in this setting that Heritage is seeking a part-time, bi-vocational Youth Pastor. Ministry duties include:

• Oversee the Youth Group (6^th-12^th graders) which meets Wednesday evenings for dinner, games, worship, and teaching.
• Help submit an annual budget for youth ministry.
• Assist in the Sunday worship service, preach occasionally
• Organize retreats and camps.
• Train and direct adult youth leaders.
• Other assigned duties.

• This position reports to the Senior Pastor and Church Elders.

Expectations

We desire to partner with a bi-vocationally minded Youth Pastor who is passionate about seeing students come to faith in Jesus and disciple them to become committed members of the body of Christ. The pastor must be able to teach the Bible with creativity and conviction, in ways that apply to various age levels.

The Pastor must pursue the character qualities listed in Titus 3, display a level of spiritual maturity and evidence of practicing spiritual disciplines regularly. This position also serves as a church elder.

The Pastor needs to be in theological agreement with the US Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith.

As for education, a bachelor’s degree or higher is preferable, yet not required.

Salary range: $20.00 - 30.00 per hour

Anticipated time commitment per week is:

• Sunday (5 hours)
• Wednesday evenings (5 hours),
• Applicable time in preparation and study (approximately 5 hours)
• camps and retreat weekends (usually two to three per year).

Additional responsibilities include:

• Attending staff meetings (1.5 hours weekly)
• Monthly elder meetings.
