Summary
The Relief Cook is responsible for leadership and culinary responsibilities, including supervising kitchen activities while preparing and cooking a wide variety of food for customers, employees, and visitors. He/she assists in dietary planning, prepares food according to recipes, and plans cooking schedules to meet mealtime schedules.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Handles and prepares food in accordance with federal, state and local sanitary regulations.
• Plans creative, appetizing, and nutritional menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events.
• Prepares meals, including modified consistency and therapeutic diets, as prescribed by the attending physician.
• Strategically place orders for food and other supplies to meet the facility's needs and helps maintain Dietary budget.
• Function as a supervisor over cooks/dietary aides and assist with food preparation.
• Assist in training and instruction for preparation, cooking, and plating presentation of food.
• Communicates freely with supervisor(s) and cooperates with other dietary department staff.
• Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• 5 years of related culinary experience including 1 year at the management level.
• Experience in health care, and/or related food service operations.
• Knowledge of food and industry trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost controls, and presentation.
• Supervisory, leadership, training, management, and coaching skills.
• ServSafe or Department of Health Certification is preferred.
• Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel.
• Associate's degree in Culinary Arts is preferred.
• May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, overtime and in different positions as facility's needs require.
• Must practice good personal hygiene and follow dress code requirements.
• Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
