The Role:

  • Be the strategic subject matter expert for Industrial market sector projects today and 3 years into the future.
  • Providing leadership and expertise to the Business Group specific markets and customers with the goal of best value for the customer and development of positive, long-term relationships.
  • Developing and championing a safe work environment, utilization of best practices and a high level of teamwork within the Business Group
  • Developing and Executing the Business Group Plan, meeting revenue and profit goals, building Business Group expertise and competencies, and establishing and maintaining a sustainable business model.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assures the Business Group under his/her care is organized, strategically positioned, and fully capable of delivering the services and expertise expected of their team.
  • Acts as the public “face” for the Business Group, representing the team with current and potential clients, industry partners, and internal key relationships.
  • Is ultimately responsible for Business Group success in meeting safety, employee development, project selection and execution, sales, revenue, profitability, and customer expectations
  • Business Development / Sales Responsibilities / Preconstruction Responsibilities
  • Under the leadership and direction of the Sales VP, identify, build and execute a three-year strategic business plan for the specific market or customer responsibilities, to include:
  1. Identify primary customers and market available revenue by year using the “concept to maintenance” strategy, by working with our clients from the conception of the project to the operations and maintenance of the facility. Including a strategy to identify major projects, special projects and service work potential
  2. Identify top general contractors / clients for the Business Group and the individual(s) responsible for awarding the scope of work appropriate to meeting or exceeding the Business Group Plan goals.
  3. Identify Clients and Industry Partners influential within the Business Group’s market and area of expertise. Develop and implement strategies to establish mutually beneficial relationships and build Hermanson’s reputation as an industry leader within the identified Business Group market.
  • Lead overall market strategy, working with Marketing Department staff to identify and formulate marketing programs and materials to support Business Group strategy.
  • Responsible for all sales efforts required to meet or exceed the Business Group Plan goals.
  • Responsible for all Preconstruction efforts required to meet or exceed the Business Group Plan goals.
  • Lead and align resources during preconstruction, responsible for these resource expenditures (engineering, estimating., etc.), as aligned with business plan budgets.
  • Attend preconstruction design development meetings, maintain a budget control log during this phase.
  • Establish and manage precon budget P&L, including spending plan & overhead recovery, performing monthly stats and billings. Note: depending on the project, a PM may be available to assist for some of these duties. Estimating is available as a resource for this when developing project budgets.
  • Develop conceptual/GMP estimates during project pursuit and during preconstruction.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction oversight and advocacy during construction phase of project.
  • This position is required to support the pricing and estimating efforts and will require site visits requiring the ability to walk and maintain balance over rough, icy, or muddy ground, climb stairs and ladders, work safely at heights without fear, and to work effectively while exposed to the weather for long periods.

Business Group Management

Team with the CE to link Business Group strategy to operations and personnel implementing the strategy by constantly assessing the organization’s capabilities and capacity to execute their business plans to achieve annual revenue/profit objectives.

Accountabilities & KPIs

  • Achieves assigned revenue & profitability as defined in the one-page business plan.
  • Prepares and manages one page business plans for Business Group, adjusting to meet goals.
  • Update and maintain Strategic Account Plan (SAP’s)
  • Achieves identified customer objectives.
  • Completes strategic customer account plans to company standards.
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction ratings to company standards.
  • Foster a high level of Safety performance in their Business Group.
  • This position is responsible for delivering project margin at or above the group’s annual business plan goals

Qualifications:

  • The qualified candidate must have demonstrated the ability to analyze and perform pursue/not pursue and bid/no bid recommendations and develop pursuit strategies for business opportunities. The position will also require previous experience in evaluation, competitive environment assessment, value-based pricing, price-to-win analyses and probability of winning. A proven track record of negotiation and closing high value contracts involving strategic business relationships. A candidate must have the following experience:
  • 10-15 years plus experience of mechanical industrial construction sales.
  • Proven success in leading a financially successful group as if it was a start-up business.
  • Contract negotiation with GC executives, Owners, Sr. PMs, & key personnel
  • Estimating, project management, engineering
  • Possess strong written and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • A record of achievement in selling across market segments and to GC Accounts
  • Is a disciplined, strategic thinker and possesses a holistic view of Hermanson’s business, building and nurturing key relationships focusing on desired outcomes and creating competitive advantage for our entire business.
  • Ability to attract, select, retain and develop high performing employees for Hermanson’s long term success.

Education:

Four-year University degree, preferably in engineering, architecture, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
