Unit Med/Surg # Beds 21 Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:6 both days and nights, sometimes 1:7. Need to be comfortable with these ratios. Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS Common diagnoses/Types of patients Colorectal surgery, GI, G Tube, Peg tubes, NG, a lot of surgical, general surgical, general med/surg patients, pancreatitis, pneumonia, no covid on this floor. Experience Or 'Must Have' Skillsgeneral med/surg Are RNs required to titrate drips? no Common titratable &/or set rate drips heparin, might start nitro Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? On site, have a monitor tech on another floor Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse (do take patients) and house sup 24/7 Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes 2-3 per shift and a unit secretary, ratio vary - see CNA notes RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) Cpap, o2 Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 3-12 hour shifts. Start at 6:45. Try to accommodate block schedule, but not guaranteed, no self scheduling Weekend Requirement Every other weekend. Vacation Requirement Will rotate with core staff Is there Call or a Standby requirement? no Floating Requirements? Any other gen med floor, including covid, Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Any color or pattern Unit/Department specific orientation 2 days classroom, 2- 12 hour shfits on unit Additional Notes We need to make sure all travelers coning to SMH are aware they will be working with LPN s. We have several on our med-surg units and do a team nursing approach.
