Administrative Functions
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual, and are in compliance with their job descriptions.
- Participate in facility surveys/inspections made by authorized government agencies as may be requested.
- Assist new hires with orientation to residents, care plans, policies and procedures and duties related to their job descriptions. Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession as well as maintain your license on a current status.
- Ensure your assigned staff is following HIPAA and privacy regulations, Abuse policy, resident rights and infection control/safety policies and procedures.
- Charting and Documentation will be done in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects care provided to resident, as well as the resident s response to the care.
- Chart all reports of accidents and incidents involving residents by following established procedures.
- Provide a full and detailed report to the oncoming nursing staff.
- Frequently review and give input to resident s plan of care and ensure that assigned staff are following such plan.
- Notify the resident s attending provider and next-of-kin when the resident has a change in condition.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the provider.
- Follow the five rights of medication administration including right resident, right drug, right dose, right time and right route.
- Ensure that narcotic records are accurate for your shift.
- Notify the Director of Nursing of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift.
- Reorder medications as needed.
- Notify the attending provider of automatic stop orders prior to the last dosage being administered.
- Dispose of drugs and narcotics as required and in accordance with established procedures.
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
- Make daily rounds of your shift to ensure that nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report problems to the Director of Nursing.
- Ensure that department personnel, resident and visitors follow the department s established policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.
- Receive/give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
- Works beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
- Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., server weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
- Working schedule may vary from days, evenings, weekdays and weekends.
- Must be able to push/pull/move and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and be able to push/pull/move and/or carry such a weight a minimum distance of twenty (20) feet.
