Fully competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department
Fully competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section.
Assesses the patient, reviews the orders/ chart as appropriate confirming the reason for exam. Ensures pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed.
Prepares the patient for the procedure, answers any patients questions and effectively communicates with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol.
Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist.
Provides a safe environment to include, but not limited to, infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals.
Monitors the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement. Performs QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation.
Actively participates in the clinical education of student sonographers.
Actively participates in departments Performance Improvement Projects.
QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education And Formal TrainingGraduate of an AMA approved Sonography program. ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS) preferred. New graduates may apply that are registered or registry eligible. New graduates that are registry eligible must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of their hire date. Maintain current AHA CPR certification through Cape Fear Valley Training and Development department. Work Experience1 year minimal experienced required. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities RequiredDemonstrates technical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonography. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrates compassionate patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for all age groups. Provides care based on the patients developmental needs. Experienced in the delivery of effective patient care and interacts effectively with patients of all ages. Physical RequirementsMust be able to communicate orally. Must have dexterity and visual acuity. Must have mobility to assume awkward positions. Must have mobility to respond to emergency situations. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to bend and have the ability to lift 100lbs/carry objects up to 50 lbs..
