Unit Med/Surg # Beds 21 Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:6 both days and nights, sometimes 1:7. Need to be comfortable with these ratios. Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS Common diagnoses/Types of patients Colorectal surgery, GI, G Tube, Peg tubes, NG, a lot of surgical, general surgical, general med/surg patients, pancreatitis, pneumonia, no covid on this floor. Experience Or 'Must Have' Skillsgeneral med/surg Are RNs required to titrate drips? no Common titratable &/or set rate drips heparin, might start nitro Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? On site, have a monitor tech on another floor Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse (do take patients) and house sup 24/7 Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes 2-3 per shift and a unit secretary, ratio vary - see CNA notes RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) Cpap, o2 Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 3-12 hour shifts. Start at 6:45. Try to accommodate block schedule, but not guaranteed, no self scheduling Weekend Requirement Every other weekend. Holiday Requirement Will rotate with core staff Is there Call or a Standby requirement? no Floating Requirements? Any other gen med floor, including covid, Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Any color or pattern Unit/Department specific orientation 2 days classroom, 2- 12 hour shfits on unit Additional Notes We need to make sure all travelers coning to SMH are aware they will be working with LPNs. We have several on our med-surg units and do a team nursing approach.
