Hf Sinclair is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist Near Artesia, NM

Basic FunctionHF Sinclair in Lovington, NM is seeking an EHS Specialist. This position conducts mid-level to complex health and safety assignments and, depending on assignment, environmental management assignments for the facility under general supervision. May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.
Job Duties
  • Develops, updates and maintains training program, liaising with appropriate staff and management and ensuring all required periodic certifications are maintained including recordkeeping
  • Makes recommendations regarding ongoing training needs of operations staff
  • Coordinates emergency response teams for the facility
  • Coordinates annual safety and fire inspections
  • Develops safety policies and procedures
  • Provides consultation and recommendations for safety, fire protection and emergency response issues
  • Provides general Plant Safety support for the Refinery
  • Conducts safety training and assist management with training needs
  • Surveys compliance to Policy and Procedures relating to safety and implements policies and procedures for compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Assists field management with loss control efforts including hazard assessment and control, compliance assessments and establishment of behavioral safety systems
  • Provides Safety Hazard input to HAZOP studies
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
EXPERIENCEA minimum of three years of on the job experience with five years of experience working in a refinery or related oil and gas industry field are required.
Education LevelA minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required or the equivalent years of experience in lieu of the degree (four years in addition to the experience requirement) are required.
PREFERRED EDUCATIONal LevelDepending on location, specialized training in Industrial Fire Fighting; High Angle Rescue; Hazmat; and EMT, Certifications in CSP, PE, CIH, Hazard Assessment, Air Monitoring, Workers Compensation, Radiation Safety and HAZWOPER are preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLSThe Safety/ER Specialist must demonstrate the following skills Collaborative behaviors, self-motivation, interpersonal, and open communication skills. Positive attitude and willingness to support the Health, Safety, and Emergency Response team. Demonstrate calmness and courage in emergency events. Knowledge of Life Saving Rules, HollyFrontier Group HSSE, Social Performance (SP), Control Framework, AMS, Code of Conduct, and Plant Standing Instructions with demonstrated ability to intervene as needed with this knowledge. Have regulatory knowledge of Safety and ER along with knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices. This position is expected to demonstrate a high level of honesty, integrity and follow the chain of command in the performance of their duties.
5 years experience in Plant Production, Maintenance TA, Projects, Safety, or associated Technical Field.
PREFERRED SKILLSStrong time management.
Supervisory/Managerial ResponsibilityMay lead and direct the work of others from time-to-time.
Work ConditionsOffice based, field based and, with travel up to 30% of the time by land or air is required. Petroleum refinery, and out-of-door environments, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment, fumes or airborne particles and loud noises and vibrations. Required to work in all temperatures including outdoors and confined spaces. Subject to varying road and weather conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSJob conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspection, making precise hand & finger movements, reaching and grasping, lifting and/or carrying 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 15 lbs and climbing up to 50 ft, perceiving color differences, strenuous physical activity and, the ability to wear personal protective equipment (bears not permitted).
