HFI is Hiring a Director of Community Outreach Near Mobile, AL

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Community Outreach conducts proactive street outreach to the homeless. He/She provides interventional outreach in response to reports from concerned citizens, partner agencies, law enforcement, etc. He/she collaborates outreach activities with other agencies, organizations, and businesses in the community. Responds to inquiries from the public/related organizations, and represents Housing First, Inc. through his/her association and attendance of area help agency meetings and events.

This is an exempt position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervisory Duties

o Provide direct supervision to all Outreach Specialist

o Assist Outreach Specialist in completing accurate documentation by providing peer level guidance and support.

o Provide guidance and close supervision to interns in the department.

  • Program Duties

o Gain working knowledge in the use of the HMIS / ServicePoint software and reporting system, as it relates to grant reporting, and employee accountability.

o Maintain and work within departmental budgets at all times

o Establish and maintain an effective system for mapping locations throughout the coverage area to provide outreach to the homeless.

o Develop a schedule to provide routine outreach at mapped locations.

o Document and maintain database of all outreach activities and contacts made with the homeless.

o Prepare and provide monthly reports on outreach data.

o Establish and cultivate relationships and communications through various sources for reaching the homeless in the community, including local law enforcement, DHR, food stamp office, Healthcare for the Homeless, the public school system, city government, emergency shelters, and other homeless services agencies.

o Respond to calls from various sources to provide outreach to the homeless.

o Document and certify homelessness status for individuals and families being assessed for eligibility for homeless services.

o Agency lead for annual HUD/CoC-Point-in-Time count

o Agency lead for annual Project Homeless Connect event

o Attend workshops, seminars, conferences or in-house trainings relating to his/her position and responsibilities. This may occasionally require overnight travel.

o Perform other tasks and duties not specifically outlined in this job description, but within the scope of his/her education, experience, and abilities, as necessary for the successful operation of the agency.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

6. Become familiar with agencies and procedures for mainstream benefits applications

7. Become familiar with HUD rules and regulations

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

2. Good oral and written communication skills

3. Ability to plan and organize self and work to meet goals

4. Must have a valid driver’s license for the state of Alabama and a clean driving record

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Sitting for two or more hours

2. Standing for two or more hours

4. Walking up to one mile or more

5. Lifting/moving boxes, appliances and furniture, no more than 50 pounds individually
