Job Title: Quality Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Quality Engineer works with Operations and Engineering to establish processes, documentation and training to prevent defects and meet customer requirements for automotive customers. The QE will also be responsible for managing assigned customers and suppliers. This will be accomplished through strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with a team while complying with IATF16949 and ISO14001 standards. The Quality Engineer contributes to the HGC company mission by building positive relationships with coworkers, customers, and suppliers. Success for a quality engineer will result in trusting relationships, improved processes, and improved quality systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with Engineering and Operations to develop processes and documentation supporting our quality management system. Examples are:
- APQP (Advance Product Quality Planning)
- DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
- PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
- Design/Process Reviews
- 8D problem-solving and root-cause analysis
- Continuous improvement teams
- Leads completion of assigned external and internal corrective actions
- Performs customer/supplier audits, layered audits, and internal quality and environmental system audits (IATF 16949 and ISO14000)
- Supports Operations, Receiving, Materials, and Quality with nonconforming product disposition
- Manages assigned customers/suppliers to address quality-related activities and lead improvement teams
- Follows and reviews active projects by maintaining activity trackers, attending review meetings, and signing off on project phase completions.
- Provides quality support as necessary to customers during all phases of product development
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Experience as a member of cross-functional quality and/or technical teams
- Root cause analysis/formal problem-solving ability
- Ability to conduct product and process audits and inspections
- Ability to read blueprints and identify the non-conforming product
- Ability to manage projects
- Working experience with APQP, DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA, and 8D activities (or similar processes)
- Experience working within Quality Systems such as IATF16949 and ISO14001
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and co-workers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a technical field or at least ten years' experience in Quality Engineering
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3 years' experience in automotive preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Certified Quality Engineer, IATF 16949 or ISO14000 auditor a plus
COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
- Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Walking for long periods - 1-5 hrs./day
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl Occasionally

TRAVEL DEMANDS:
- Occasional (less than 5%) travel to local customers and suppliers

Manufacturing plant and office employees can/will be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and other airborne particles.
