HH MedStar Health Inc. is Hiring an OR Operations Control Clerk (Part Time- WEEKENDS ONLY!) Near Washington, DC

General Summary of Position

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is looking for a part-time OR Operations Control Clerk in the Operating Room. This position is every Saturday from 7:00AM - 7:00PM and Sunday from 7:00AM - 5:00PM.

The incumbent in this position coordinates communications and functions of the individual surgical suite control desk (Inpatient OR, SDS, Endourology) to ensure a smooth running, efficient surgical schedule. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

What you will do

Informs Charge Nurse of changes in daily elective schedule and of add on (urgent, emergent) cases; keeps Master OR Schedules and computerized scheduling system up to date regarding changes and pertinent information.

Verifies and communicates any changes in surgical times, procedures and status of patient with OR Nursing personnel, Nursing Units, attending physicians, residents, Anesthesia, Admissions and OR ancillary staff.

Initiates calls for assistance during emergencies in the operating suite (codes, Anesthesia, disaster plans, etc.) and immediately reports technical problems effecting equipment, alarm systems, etc. to appropriate persons and/or department.

Informs Nursing Units to premedicate surgical patients as appropriate and sends for patients going directly into Operating Room, Inpatient Holding, Endourology, SDS exam rooms and/or Pediatric Discharge Lounge.

Maintains and operates the intercom and the automated systems used to retrieve reports, room assignments and order entry for lab requests; operates pneumatic tube system to send and retrieve items from main lab, General OR and as appropriate in SDS and Endourology; maintains adequate supply of record packs and requisitions and prepares OR record requests specific to the patient and procedure.

Verifies status of blood availability with the blood bank as appropriate and communicates need for blood and blood components as requested.

Verifies receipt of x rays for patients on the operative schedule; requests additional x rays or X ray Technologist as needed.

Initiates requests to Anesthesia and OR Ancillary personnel to clean rooms after each procedure.

Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, Required.

2 years hospital work experience as a medical secretary or a unit secretary, including one year operations control clerk experience, Required.

1-2 years O.R. certified tech experience and experience in an acute care facility, Preferred.

Medical/surgical terminology, Required.

Experience working with multiple telephone lines highly desirable; effective oral and written communication skills.

Office skills, which include knowledge and operational use of, automated systems, and pneumatic tube system.

Ability to maintain emotional controls and functions in a very high activity area and under stress during emergent and non-emergent situations.
