HHM Talent is assisting a client search for a Multi-Dealership Controller.

This position is on-site in Fort Walton Beach, FL. No remote opportunity.

Must have Automotive Controller experience.

Job Summary

The Automotive Multi-Dealership Corporate Controller assists with reporting the Company's financial condition regularly and accurately to provide the organization's overall financial health. Provides analyses of risk and opportunity areas to improve profitability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned dealership accounting operations. Requires 50% travel which includes site visits to dealership accounting office's and/or corporate offices. Train market associates on process deficiencies, improve internal controls and review books and records.
  • Evaluate site visits through assessment tool to determine areas of opportunity. Track and confer with respective parties regarding open tasks through completion.
  • Review, validate and assess the Market Controller’s monthly compliance workbook.
  • Collaborate in establishing policies/procedures, creating efficiencies through automation, and involvement in any accounting related software conversions.
  • Integral participant in establishing a centralized accounting office and overseeing assigned functions.
  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts and handle general ledger analysis.
  • Ensure all scheduled accounts are current and accurate.
  • Analyze and review wholesale liability.
  • Assist operations with dealership forecasting and budgeting.
  • Conduct an analytical review of monthly financial statements highlighting deviations from budget, and unusual variances in revenue and expenses.
  • Routinely analyze financial reports and the daily control of operations developing trend analysis.
  • Oversee and manage Office Managers and accounting team in our dealership operations.
  • Attract, retain, and develop accounting team via coaching, mentoring, career development and performance management feedback. Integrate and train new staff while leading the continued professional development of the existing team.
  • Establish and manage financial controls for our dealership operations that ensure the highest level of accountability, risk mitigation, and internal control and regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in the preparation of information for the external accounting and tax firms to minimize audit costs.
  • Continually strive to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the Company
  • Attends manager meetings, interacts with both Executives and dealership management.
  • Is directly responsible for managing designated employees, including but not limited to hiring, policy and procedure execution, time and attendance management, disciplinary proceedings, and the disbursement and enforcement of training and information per SOAG policy, procedures, SOPs, and guidelines.
  • Maintains professional appearance.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information exists.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Knowledge of the accrual principle, the matching principle, the historic cost principle, the conservatism principle, and the principle of substance over form, and GAAP standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Must be able to sit for long hours while working from a desktop computer, accounting calculator, accounting software, ledgers, financial statements, and more.
  • Must have ample dexterity to bend, reach, stretch, sit, stand, type, and lift to 30 pounds.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Five or more years’ multi-dealership experience required.
  • Automotive industry experience required.
  • Dealertrack experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Report.
