Duties
  • Collaborate with providers, nurse, social services, ensuring health care maintenance is current on empaneled patients, conducts assessment, screening and interviews, patients clinical, psychosocial and functional status.
  • Coordinates visits with assigned providers, conducting pre visit planning, proactively identifies and coordinates pt. care, interacts with the patient/family/caregiver and provider to discuss pt. care, participates in clinical initiatives to improve pt. health.
  • Participate in department orientation, quality improvement programs, provides direct nursing care.
  • Processing notifications and writing referrals as needed, documents efficiently and in timely manner, ensuring that there are no deficiencies.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. QualificationsTo qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Basic Requirement(s)Individual Occupational Requirement
  • Education: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the Basic Requirements for a nurse position. This education must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree of Foreign Nursing Schools: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
  • Licensure: In order to qualify for this position, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
Minimum QualificationsYour resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-10: One (1) year specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Examples Include: perform specialized nursing assignments such as continuity of care for pre-visit planning, visit coordination and post visit follow-care, preventative screening, face-to-face interviews, build patient care plans, patient record documentation for appropriate billing procedures, and coordinate care through of variety of patient resources, actively participate in administrative functions of Purchased Referred Care (PRC) in the approval of patient referrals; processes, manages, coordinates emergent and urgent patient referrals.
OR PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational and/or program or related medical science field.

Additional InformationPer IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
