Duties
  • Identifies security measures and the need for more effective management systems and controls in correcting discrepancies and inefficiencies in the physical security program.
  • Develops, conducts, reviews, and executes facility security plans, facility site assessments and inspection activities of physical security programs requiring frequent travel throughout FDA headquarters and field offices to ensure compliance.
  • Develops system additions to existing security systems to ensure that adequate security measures are maintained on FDA buildings and grounds.
  • Conducts and supports investigations of thefts, missing property, security violations, and assist with investigations of alleged security breaches, by obtaining facts pertinent to each case and recommending corrective action.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries/communications from the field organizations and agency personnel, centers, industry representatives and other governmental agencies.

QualificationsThe position of Physical Security Specialist falls under the 0080 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 06/07/2024.Minimum QualificationsSpecialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-12: You must have 1 (one) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: utilizing and operating Visitor Management Systems and Access Control Systems (i.e., Monitor Dynamics Inc. (MDI), CCURE 9000, Bosch CCTV, and Commend); evaluating the functionality of personnel access tools and security devices in facilities for adherence to physical security requirements; monitoring security operations for systemic weaknesses and threats; providing interpretation and clarification related to physical security protocols and rules.
