Duties
  • Serves as a principal representative for a complex infectious disease public health program and to resolve pervasive health-related problems and issues that are usually characterized as controversial, unconventional, or novel.
  • Shapes and implements national policies related to HIV/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
  • Manages the planning, direction, and execution of all program operations; and provides administrative and technical oversight to HIV/AIDS team members.
  • Conducts research and analyses on emerging issues in HIV health policy, including recommendations for new program initiatives and improvements.
  • Collaborates with other federal agencies and external organizations to promote the development and implementation of best practices related to HIV/AIDS.

QualificationsApplicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.Specialized Experience:GS-15: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below:
  • Providing authoritative policy guidance for HIV/AIDS related research and development, prevention modalities, and recommended screenings, care, and treatments.
  • Leading HIV/AIDS public health program policy, legislative, or regulatory development research initiatives to provide comprehensive assessments of the implications on plans, policies, and priorities.
  • Facilitating strategic partnerships with community organizations involved in HIV/AIDS efforts to promote progress towards achieving health equity.
  • Preparing public health reports relevant to HIV/AIDS for use in executive-level management decisions, responses to high-level inquiries, and marketing/outreach material.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
