Job DescriptionThe Process Engineer supervises, and coordinates activities of machine operators engaged in the forming of plastic materials to ensure safe, efficient, correct and timely completion of tasks in the department.
  • Compiles, documents, and/or edits current departmental procedures including set ups, processing, production, preventative maintenance, safety, and clean up. Responsible for training and documentation of such for all employees in the department (hands on demonstration, verbal communications, and written documentation). Assigns trainees to work with experienced workers for on-the-job and other training.
  • Assists in developing, implementing and identifying resources for process improvement projects.
  • Evaluates & assists in the maintenance of equipment to maximize process efficiencies.
  • Leads and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in forming components into plastic products; assigns duties and time frames.
  • Possesses strong ability to process and troubleshoot Thermoforming jobs from start to a successful finish.
  • Reviews shop floors prior to production for accuracy, raw material availability, and tooling availability to expedite production. Reviews and approves all job labor reporting for the Forming department.
  • May set up and operate machine tools (such as forming machines, drill presses, milling machines, CNC routers or die cutters) and hand tools (such as routers to fabricate parts, forming presses to form parts), applying knowledge of machining or forming methods.
  • Ensures safety of employees; keeps work area clean and organized.
Process Engineer will spend a lot of time in the Shop. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the facility is usually moderate.
The employee is routinely required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is routinely required to lift and move up to 10 pounds or less, frequently required to lift and move up to 25 pounds or more, and occasionally required to lift or move 50 pounds without assistance. The employee is expected to seek assistance when lifting or moving anything is excess of 70 pounds. The word lift as it is used here means the direct physical movement of something such as lift and carry without assistance, not the conveyance or movement by merely pushing or pulling of something. Move may involve the use of conveyance equipment to bring products to a platform where the employee will then push or pull the product onto a shelf. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. “Occasionally” means up to 1/3 of the workday; “Frequently” means 1/3 to 2/3 of the workday; and “Routinely” means 2/3 or more of the workday.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School degree required. Associate or bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • 2-4 years of Process Engineering experience and 2-4 years Thermoforming experience required.
  • Mathematic aptitude includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, fractions, and decimals.
  • Blueprint reading required.
  • Measurement skills required
