Health Equity Specialist

Program/ Location: Quality & Compliance Department/ New Bedford
Education/ Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field
Pay Rate: $49,920 - $60,320 (Education & experience dependent)
Status: Full Time
Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
Travel required & includes mileage reimbursement

About Us

High Point & Affiliated Organizations is a health and human service agency whose mission is to treat and prevent substance use disorders and mental illness. High Point has programs located throughout Southeastern Massachusetts offering a full continuum of care for substance use and mental health treatment, including inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community-based services. Programs and services also assist survivors of abuse, violence, and families experiencing homelessness. High Point believes that everyone has inherent goodness, worth, and dignity. Health Equity Specialist Requirements:

  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas in logical and clear fashion.

  • Must have the ability to work with others in cooperative and collaborative manner.

  • An understanding of the relationship between substance use and mental health issues.

  • Comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Policy and HIPAA Regulations.

  • Ability to work with multiple disciplines to ensure compliance.

Health Equity Specialist Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify health disparities within the organization.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies to promote health equity.

  • Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to enhance healthcare access and quality for underserved populations.

  • Provide training and support to staff and partners on cultural competency and health equity principles.

  • Collect and analyze data to monitor the effectiveness of health equity initiatives and report findings.

  • Performs tasks related to process design and improvement initiatives, data collection, analysis and reporting;

  • Maintains accurate accounts of data management;

  • Chair the Healthcare Disparity Committee, including creating agendas for meetings and presenting annual reports to the board.

  • Serve as a liaison to all organization Community Advisory Boards, evaluating the utilization of resources for reasonable accommodations.

  • Meet targeted goals outlined in the action plan submitted to BSAS (Bureau of Substance Addiction Services) CLAS Assessment Plan

  • Oversee Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) specific Health Care Disparities (HCD) Annual Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives.

  • Ensure meaningful access to healthcare services through annual organization self-assessments and action plan development.

  • Complete the annual Disability Competence Care Self-Assessment Report and develop plans to enhance competency in providing disability-competent care.

  • Analyze data from screenings and prepare annual reports on disability accommodation needs.

  • Travels between High Point programs and sites as required;

  • Attends committee meetings as assigned;

  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Quality & Compliance Officer

Health Equity Specialist Qualifications: 

  • People with lived experiences with disabilities are encouraged to apply

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field

  • Proven experience in health equity, community health, or related areas.

  • Strong understanding of health disparities and social determinants of health.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills.

  • Ability to analyze data and use it to inform policy and program decisions.

  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.

  • Experience creating detailed reports and presenting information in a clear, concise manner;

  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills;

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
