Highland Rivers Community Service Board is Hiring a Peer Specialist (Peer Support) Near Rome, GA

We serve a complex and vulnerable population: individuals and families who may have limited income, who are uninsured or who have Medicaid or Medicare – people who often have nowhere else to turn and rely on Highland Rivers to help them. Highland Rivers Health is currently seeking a Social Service Technician. The Social Service Technician (SST) is an active member of the Peer Support team and provides peer support services to individuals with serious mental illnesses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate recovery-orientated, wellness, and skill building groups.
  • Support individuals in articulating personal goals and objectives for recovery and wellness.
  • Assist individuals in identify strengths, recovery/wellness goals, setting objectives, and identifying barriers.
  • Recognize and report progress individuals make toward goals/objectives.
  • Utilize specific interventions necessary to support individuals in meeting their recovery/wellness goals.
  • Teach problem-solving (negative self-talk and overcoming fears) techniques.
  • Support individuals in building social skills in the community that will enhance job and support network.
  • Develop engaging recovery orientated group material/activities/projects and outings.
  • Support individuals in obtaining services that suit that individual's recovery needs.
  • Support individuals in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy and the use of experience to combat stigma.
  • Create and facilitate a variety of group activities that support and strengthen recovery. Develop linkages with Community agencies to find speakers, volunteer opportunities, community activities, etc.
  • Educate individuals on CPS certification and process for applying to training.
  • Transport individuals as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in Behavioral Health
  • Certified Peer Specialist or eligible
  • Bi-lingual abilities a plus
