The RoleAnalyzes and designs sequence of operations and work flow to improve efficiencies in plant and production facilities and equipment layouts; and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel. May establish or assist in establishing accident prevention measures and may manage training programs for personnel concerning all phases of production operations. Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems. On the basis of these studies, develops and implements plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods. May assist facilities engineers in the planning and design of facilities.
Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
This position will work special projects specific to the Manufacturing Division, supporting the Manufacturing Strategy. Projects will vary over time, but will support multiple contract deliverables and product lines.
Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to HaveKnowledge of Microsoft(Access, Excel, & Power Point); VBA experience a plus.
