HILL AND WOOD FUNERAL SERVICE

BRANCH MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Branch Manager is the Manager of Record with the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the specific location assigned. The families served by this location are the Branch Manager’s first priority. Service consistency and quality will be the result of the successful Branch Manager’s execution of their duties. The Branch Manager will use creative problem-solving skills to assure the satisfaction of every family served by Hill and Wood Funeral Service. This person is responsible for the supervision, training, coaching and compliance of staff assigned to the location as directed by the Business Manager.

A successful Branch Manager will be professional and open-minded, punctual, detail oriented and unwilling to cut corners. They will be rule oriented, and will recognize that their own success is measured by their team’s performance with both quality of service and administrative proficiency.

Primary Requirements

  • Have an enforcement mindset and be willing to ensure all staff complete all paperwork and comply with stated company policy.
  • Ensure that our funeral directors and staff have the training and resources to ensure that every family served receives the absolute best possible care while upholding company values, policies, and objectives.
  • Actively seek to help grow the company, in terms of call volume and revenue.

Leadership

  • Holds self and all direct reports accountable for completing all company assigned learning assignments, including compliance, i.e., OSHA, FTC, Harassment prevention, etc.
  • Oversees all Team Members participating in all types of services, ensuring that each member of the team understands their role and is professionally representing Hill and Wood.
  • Leads staff by providing coaching, mentoring and development opportunities including, with the Business Manager, the setting and achievement of staff development goals.
  • Leads funeral operations in providing the very best personal service to our client families.
  • Ensures every client family is presented with all service and merchandise options
  • Contributes to the overall efficiency of the location by maintaining open and effective communication and maintaining accurate and timely client records
  • Leads funeral operations in growing market share by building strong relationships with the community including (but not limited to) community businesses and leaders.

Management

  • Manage, monitor, and understand compliance of federal, state, and local laws and regulations for operation of the funeral home’s operations
  • Ensures paperwork, including permits and certificates, is completed promptly and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Builds and maintains a strong brand by building relationships in the community
  • Leads facility management to include ensuring the fleet of vehicles and all areas of the building and grounds, i.e., landscaping, and parking lot adequately maintained and in working order always, sometimes including participation in completing these tasks directly
  • Holds responsibility for preparing for and participating in quarterly financial and business reviews with senior management
  • Partners with senior management for marketing, finance, human resources, and IT, by maintaining regular ongoing two-way communication
  • Acts to improve market share through membership/board/officer participation in at least one community organization, i.e., Rotary; regularly participates in at least two community events, and groups and other community relationships as assigned
  • Participates in weekly meetings with the Business Manager to share and exchange resources and to ensure goals are being met.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of family surveys and utilizes them in coaching and developing staff.
  • Manage overtime to an acceptable expense.
  • Other managerial duties as assigned.

Funeral Directing

On occasion, the Branch Manager will need to wait upon families as the arranging director and must be able to adhere to the same policies and provide the same level of service as the rest of the licensed team:

  • Participates in initial transfer of decedents, dressing, applying cosmetics, casketing, and preparation of the deceased on an as-needed basis (per appropriate licensing) to the instructions obtained from the family.
  • Meets with client families to listen and arrange personalized funeral services and ensures their experience with the business is of the highest quality.
  • Oversees and/or participates in funeral services to ensure they are conducted per family directions and relevant policy.
  • Utilizes systems/technology, i.e., arrangement conference technology system in place to review merchandise options, enter contracts and complete necessary forms at the time of arrangement, and complete tasks and resulting details.
  • Ensures proper paperwork -internal and external-, including permits and certificates, is completed timely and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn.
  • Self-starter and problem resolution skills with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct supervision and management experience.
  • Licensed Funeral Director for 2 or more years
  • Detail-oriented and ability to work in a team setting.
