Hingham Public Schools is Hiring a Kids In Action Nurse Near Hingham, MA

Job Description:
Hours: 30 hours weekly, school year
Kids In Action is the extended day program for the Town of Hingham. The Kids In Action nurse will spend time at several locations during the week. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced nurse who is looking for something different! In this position, you will utilize your nursing skills, experience and the nursing process, being an integral part of enriching the after school experience of children from Pre-K thru Grade 5. You will be part of an interactive team whose goal is to provide students with opportunities for fun, physical activity and growth, within a supportive environment, helping to ensure a rich, well rounded and safe after school experience. Attractive hours including; weekends, holidays, school vacations and summers off!
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Address student illness and injury, utilizing the nursing process. Provide first aid and emergency care, administer medication and/treatment, when necessary,
  • Complete injury and incident reports, as necessary and notify parents/caregivers.
  • Maintain appropriate medical records: ensuring up to date physical examinations and immunization histories for each Pre-K program and complete immunization reports for the state.
  • Collaborate with the Director and or Team Leader regarding students with allergies and/or asthma. Ensure all Epi-Pens and inhalers are up to date and always on hand in designated space.
  • Ensure all associated paperwork is completed, including: Parental Consent, MD order/Action Plan.
  • Complete an IHCP (Individual Health Care Plan), taken directly from info on MD action Plan, in accordance with EEC regulations.
  • Ensure these plans are updated as needed.
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders to maintain first aid and medical supplies and order, as appropriate.
  • Advocate for students to ensure concerns are addressed appropriately and their safety is priority..
  • As time allows, engage students in interesting health and wellness discussions, activities or games.
  • All other duties as requested by the Kids In Action Director.
Qualifications - Required
  • Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in community health and student health
  • Ability to use a clinical approach to decision making and a systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Comfort-ability interacting with staff, students and parents.
  • Ability to adapt to a busy and changeable environment, as well as spending some time, outside, in the playground area.
