General Information:
Hitachi Energy is seeking to add a field service engineer to the Power Grids Grid Integration (PGGI) Service North America team. This position will be focused on providing support to the SunZia HVDC link transmission project in the Southwest USA.
The SunZia project includes a high voltage direct current (HVDC) connection which will connect wind farms in New Mexico to the power grid in Arizona and Southern California. This position will be focused on the development, commissioning, and service of an HVDC converter station in the Pinal County, Arizona and Carona, New Mexico areas.

Training & Development
The candidate chosen must be able to temporarily relocate for work in Hitachi Energy HVDC work technology center in Ludvika, Sweden for approximately 3-6 months. The candidate will receive training in the Hitachi Energy HVDC product line: theory, design, components, control system, etc. Along with general HVDC system training, the candidate will work with/assist senior level engineers to gain an understanding of the control and protection (C&P) software for HVDC application, support software testing in laboratory settings, and perform factory system testing (FST) while at the technology center.
Commissioning
Upon completion of construction of the HVDC converter station in New Mexico (or) Arizona, the candidate will then travel to the station as part of a Commissioning Team. The commissioning will last approximately 6-12 months and include site testing of all equipment and systems necessary to operate the HVDC converter station. This includes but is not limited to typical high voltage substation equipment, HVDC valves, cooling systems, computer control systems, etc. Once all systems are successfully tested, the HVDC converter station will be handed over to the customer for operation.
Service
Once the HVDC system is in operation, the candidate will be part of a small team of Hitachi Energy subject matter experts, managing all service activities at the station for the duration of the long term service agreement (LTSA) contract. The candidate is required to reside in the area local to the station for 3 years and will act as the PGGI Service teams' primary point of contact for the SunZia HVDC converter station. Upon completion of the LTSA, the candidate will have the flexibility to relocate to other US locations as part of the PGGI North America Service Solutions Team.
Throughout each phase of this role and as a member of the service team for HVDC and FACTS applications, the candidate will be trained on and required to execute a wide variety of engineering and service deliverables such as protection and control software applications, apparatus testing, maintenance plans, auxiliary systems, draft Instruction and test records (ITRs). They must interact continuously with other team members, customers, and subcontractors.
