HL Mando America Corporation is Hiring a Functional Safety Engineer Near Bay, MI

Job Purpose:

Experienced safety analyst that manages and conducts standard safety analyses, by applying functional safety standards and principles to provide feedback and guidance to the engineering design teams for systems, hardware, and software on safety findings and to recommended design changes that improve automotive embedded safety systems and ensure their compliance to safety goals.

Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

  • Responsible for overall Function Safety Management in context of Engineering of Mando Automotive Brake Systems
  • Lead the safety plan and enable the project team through all phases of safety engineering: requirements elicitation, item definitions, preliminary hazard analysis and risk assessment, functional safety concept, technical safety concept, item integration, safety validation.
  • Perform technical analysis and provide results to support the development of the safety concept and documentation of the safety case: hazard and risk assessment, hazard metric translation, define safety goals and criteria, ASIL decomposition, FMEA and FTA analysis
  • Consult and collaborate with the software design teams to achieve effective technical solutions and ensure that all safety requirements are robust at the systems level, hardware interface level and software architectural levels
  • Analyzes/defines the functional safety requirements within the project based on the customer requirements. Understands/analyzes the requirements from the end user perspective while considering constraints and safety standards as the main objective
  • Carries out the design analysis to support the development of safety case arguments for electronic stability controller
  • Creates/updates the hazard and risk analyses, safety plan, functional and technical safety concept
  • Specifies safety requirements and safety concepts for system/components
  • Supports the definition/specification of safety requirements for hardware and software architectures
  • Judges if system design/architecture can fulfill requirements, considering hardware-software components, interfaces, functional and environmental dependencies, using basic understanding of computer/vehicle networks, hardware and software design
  • Collaborates with the design team in the design of effective technical solutions aimed to achieve adequate robustness at System, HW and SW architectural level in compliance with ISO26262 
  • Leads/supports Safety Assessment Reviews held by safety assessor
  • Leads/performs safety analysis using standard deductive (FMEA, FMEDA...) and inductive (H&R, FTA) methods, the outcomes of these analyses will informed to the system design/architecture responsible
  • Supports the safety verification & validation activities
  • Leads/participates customers and suppliers safety review meetings 
  • Actively participates in product development, including planning and monitoring of safety plans and their validation testing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, Physics or related if combined with development engineering experience in embedded control systems.
  • Preferred candidate possesses a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a safety analyst in an automotive environment. Other technical environments, including avionics and military (Mil-Std-882) will be considered.
  • Prefer previous experience with Embedded Electronic Controls systems (E.g., Brake, Airbag, Steering)
  • Prefer experience in applying safety according to ISO DIS 26262 standards, or secondly IEC 61508 standard.
  • Prefer good understanding of embedded Software engineering and Hardware engineering domains.
  • 10 years of automotive product engineering experience working in product development with OEM and with preferred focus on brake control components such, electric brake actuators and electrical parking brake. 
  • Electrical Controller Unit of automotive system design and validation experience preferred. 
  • Experience with software development and software in the loop testing preferred.

Technical Competencies:

  • FTA to the methods of NUREG-0492 and/or IEC 61025
  • FMEA/FMECA to SAE J1739, VDA 4, and/or Mil-std-1629
  • Failure metrics analysis in accordance with ISO DIS-26262 and/or Safe Failure Fraction in accordance with IEC-61508.
  • FTA and FMEA using computer aided analysis tools (E.g. ITEM Toolkit, Relex, Isograph, etc.)
  • Reliability Predictions in accordance with IEC 62380, Mil-Hdbk-217 or Telcordia.
  • Human Factors Analysis IAW Mil-Hdbk-1472 or equivalent.

Non-Technical Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task, work well under tight timing and show great interpersonal skills for technical discussions with internal and external customers.
