The Holton-Arms School seeks a highly-skilled, innovative, collaborative, and enthusiastic Dance Teacher to join our robust Performing Arts team.

The dance program provides students with the opportunity to develop their artistic voice, by building a strong technical background and giving students the chance to use these skills to express a variety of ideas through student choreography.

Candidates must have experience teaching modern, contemporary, jazz, and ballet at the beginner through advanced level (additional dance styles welcome).

They will also provide students with the choreographic skills and competencies needed to improvise movement, develop dance phrases with a clear expressive purpose, and to revise and complete their own student compositions.

Candidates should be skilled at providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with a wide range of skill sets.

All aspects of Holton-Arms programming helps develop students' competencies around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Social Emotional Learning, and Global Education.

These are integral to the dance program, and qualified candidates will be asked to continue and expand upon our work in these areas.

The dance program seeks to create a space where students feel prepared to take risks, grow, and deepen their understanding of themselves, others, and their world.

We invite candidates who are excited to further this vision. Responsibilities :

  • Teach dance classes to students in grades 3 through 12.
  • Choreograph dances for students as needed.
  • Work with other Holton-Arms dance teacher(s) to engage in an iterative process of revising and enhancing the dance curriculum to best meet the needs of students.
  • Help produce dance concerts / shows / events as needed.
  • Support the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Mission Statement.
  • Collaborate with members of the Performing Arts team, and beyond, to assist with other creative projects as needed. This may include choreographing for musicals or the Swing Choir, planning and implementing interdisciplinary projects, etc.

Qualifications :

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience (in a dance studio, public school, and / or independent school)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in dance or dance education (Master's degree in dance or dance education, or professional performance experience preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of at least modern / contemporary, ballet, and jazz technique, as well as experience teaching composition.

Ability to teach and choreograph in additional dance styles preferred.

  • Experience choreographing on students in a variety of styles.
  • Experience with embedding Social and Emotional Learning and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging competencies into the curriculum.
  • Passionate about working in a single-gender educational environment.
  • Committed to creating a student-centered, project-based, and competency-driven classroom.
  • Proficient with technology and digital platforms in the classroom and as they relate to enhancing the arts educational experience for students.
  • Eager to collaborate with colleagues within and across grades and disciplines.
  • Committed to continued professional learning.
  • Creative and innovative teaching artists with a sense of humor and strong communication skills.
