Homage Senior Services is Hiring a Driver, Paratransit (Part Time) Near Lynnwood, WA

NOTE: new hires are budgeted to start in the $22-24/hour range, depending upon experience.

SUMMARY:

Provide safe and reliable transportation for frail, elderly, disabled and/or vulnerable adults as scheduled. The program operates Monday - Friday, 7am 5:30pm; flexibility in scheduling is preferred.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Safely drive a 22 foot bus or van over specified routes as assigned
  • Assist passengers into and out of the bus including pushing, pulling, loading and unloading wheelchairs and assisting passengers using ambulatory aids or are developmentally disabled. Assist passengers to and from their front door, up and down steps, transferring to another transit vehicle
  • Carry packages or groceries, weighing up to 30 pounds, for passenger
  • Follow all safety rules on agency policies to include: first aid, CPR, passenger sensitivity, wheelchair procedure, bloodborne pathogens, and sexual harassment
  • Follow and respond appropriately as trained to all emergencies, accidents or incidents regardless of severity
  • Complete and/or maintain reports and records as required in a neat, accurate and in timely fashion
  • Communicate via radio using proper radio procedures and follow directions given by dispatch or supervisor
  • Ensure assigned vehicle interiors are regularly cleaned and sanitized
  • May assist with program outreach
  • Attend meetings and training classes as required
  • Regular and routine attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must have current Washington State driver’s license
  • No moving traffic violations within last two years
  • No involvement in any at-fault accidents within the last 5 years
  • Ability to work varied hours and days as determined by schedule, including weekends and evenings
  • Possess a functional knowledge of the service area geography
  • Must be able to document information accurately and communicate concisely on radio and in person
  • Ability to read maps
  • Ability to relate well to various personalities, and work calmly under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Ability to notice and attend to the needs of riders, such as offering your arm for assistance when transitioning between vehicle and buildings.
  • Demonstrate sufficient patience and care to work with the clients served
  • Ability to be trained and understand CPR, first aid, and bloodborne pathogen procedures
  • This position is a safety sensitive position and must pass physical examination, drug/alcohol testing and TB testing


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum five years driving experience (does not have to be professional)
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current CDL holder
  • Experience working with the elderly or disabled
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Fluency in languages in addition to English

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Non-smoking environment
  • Sit in driver’s seat for long periods of time
  • Use full range of senses of hearing, speech, vision
  • Manual dexterity when operating vehicle, wheelchair tie-downs, and completing paperwork
  • Push and pull wheelchair with passengers which together may weigh up to 600 pounds
  • Stoop, crouch, kneel, bend at hip/knee/waist, while performing vehicle inspections, securing wheelchairs, installing wheel blocks and operating vehicle
  • Reach forward, rearward, upward, and downward when operating vehicle, performing vehicle inspections, and securing wheelchairs
  • Stand and walk while inspecting vehicle and assisting passengers
  • Be subject to wet, cold, and/or hot environmental conditions
  • Be subject to low risk of injury due to vehicle accident, mechanical failure, fire and/or explosion
  • Be subject to vehicle exhaust fumes and odors, road dusts, and mists
  • Able to lift and carry 30 pounds
  • Able to drive for up to 10 hours per day


SUMMARY OF BENEFITS

Employees working 25 hours or more are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, vision, basic life, and critical illness insurance, with an increased cost share for employees scheduled for 25-29 hours/week. Employees working 20 hours or more per week receive 11 designated paid holidays plus 2 "floating holidays", as well as paid vacation and sick time. Employees age 21 and older are able to enroll in our 401K plan upon hire and, after one year and at least 1000 hours worked, will be eligible for our matching program.

New hires are budgeted to start in the $22-24/hour range, depending upon experience.
