Home Market Foods, Inc. is Hiring a Fixed Asset Accountant Near Norwood, MA

BACKGROUNDDue to our rapid growth, our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our teams. To this end, we are posting for a strong Fixed Asset Accountant. This opportunity will be based in our Norwood manufacturing facility with an occasional need to visit other facilities and our corporate headquarters in Needham. The schedule will follow our hybrid work model, three days working onsite and two remote working days.
OVERVIEW OF ROLE: The successful candidate should have 2-3 years of experience and is responsible to record, reconcile, track, compile and report the company's new and existing fixed assets. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a manufacturing or consumer goods environment and be self-motivated, proactive, energetic, resourceful and demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a team environment. Excellent oral and written skills are necessary, as is the ability to interact with all levels of management. This position reports to the Assistant Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Fixed Assets Accounting:
  • Properly record fixed asset acquisitions and create new asset records when needed. Manage the acquisition, tracking and accounting of new fixed assets for multiple locations, including a new manufacturing facility.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and location tracking of assets from the different facilities.
  • Monitor monthly if there were any disposals of FA and book accordingly.
  • Assign tag numbers to all existing and new fixed assets from the different facilities.
  • Calculate book depreciation for all fixed assets and provide monthly forecasting and annual budgeting.
  • Ensure we have the tax depreciation data by asset updated in our current ERP system.
  • Update and maintain the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.
  • Reconcile balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.
  • Conduct periodic physical counts of fixed assets.
  • Work with Operations and Engineering team to monitor the useful life of assets and investigate potential obsolescence of fixed assets.
  • Recommend to management whether certain fixed assets should be disposed of and collaborate to find potential third parties interested in them if necessary.
  • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Capital Project Management:
  • Participate in monthly Capex review meetings, helping to determine which projects should be closed in the month and reclassify them to Fixed Assets.
  • Participate in monthly Capex Steerco meeting
  • Partner with Ops Finance team to ensure continuous evaluation of capital vs expense.
Fixed Assets Process Improvement:
  • Partner with Operations team to review existing fixed assets records, improvement processes around fixed assets management and implement a new fixed asset system to better track fixed assets.
  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of fixed assets.
  • Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, CPA preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in fixed assets accounting or general accounting
  • Solid understanding of general ledger and GAAP accounting practices
  • Experience with using and implementing fixed asset accounting/tracking systems
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful, but not necessary
  • Strong ERP skills; Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus
  • Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, be pro-active, detail oriented and well-organized
  • Team player with strong collaborative and communication skills, comfortably work with cross functional teams
  • Flexible in working at various manufacturing and/or warehouse locations
  • Project accounting experience is a plus
