All application materials must be included in your electronic application to be considered.ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - WY'EAST MIDDLE SCHOOLGeneral Statement Of DutiesServes as an educational leader contributing to the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services. Carries out duties and responsibilities in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, District leadership direction, principal direction, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. As assigned, the assistant principal will use necessary leadership, supervisory and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student to their fullest potential.
Achieving academic excellence requires that the school Assistant Principal work collaboratively with the Principal to direct and nurture all members of the school staff hired by the Board of Directors and to communicate effectively with parents and the community. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities to assist in scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations. Use of independent judgement and decision-making is required in matters not having established rules, regulations, or policies.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in conjunction with the school principal to support teachers in the development and utilization of multiple assessment tools, strategies, and data to support the achievement of the performance standards by every student.
  • Leads and promotes educational equity based on the principle that each student receives what is required for them to achieve success with regard to allocation of resources, opportunity, treatment, and access.
  • Demonstrates instructional leadership through regular classroom visits and places emphasis on personal involvement in instructional programs.
  • Understands and promotes sound principles of instruction.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Supervises and manages employees, independent contractors, substitute employees, and volunteers as directed by the school principal.
  • Assists in facilitation and coordination of various meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site council, special district committees, staff development, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating agendas and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
  • Promotes a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Is committed to providing a positive learning environment that advocates considerate, responsible, and emotionally healthy behaviors. Provides behavioral intervention for students as necessary.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information and assists in professional development on various topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback.
  • Supports the principal and the staff for the purpose of assisting with their job functions of maintaining overall school site operation.
  • Coordinates Continuous Improvement efforts in concert with the principal for Site Council and staff; implements effective strategies to improve instruction and reduce achievement gap at school level.
  • Utilizes data to measure the school’s success in meeting student expectations. Assists in development of action plans to improve performance and monitors progress.
  • Supports implementation of district curriculum in each classroom.
  • Assists in hiring, supervision, and evaluation of licensed and classified staff in school.
  • Collaborates with District personnel and peers to support program implementation and goal accomplishment.
  • Assist in the development of budgets for the building.
  • Communicate building needs to the building principal.
  • Monitors portions of the building budget within the guidelines established by the principal.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, students, parents, School Board and community about the school.
  • Maintains high ethical standards in all situations and maintains confidentiality.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students. Assists with periodic surveys of the community on needs and interests.
  • Models and enforces the established district and school policies, regulations and protocols.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual.
  • Performs work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Instructs students in classrooms and various settings when necessary.
  • Attends, assists, supports, and helps with activities of parent organization(s) to fund-raise for school projects.
  • Assists district and building staff as requested.
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Oregon Principal/Administrative License.
  • Masters or Doctorate Degree in either Education or Administration.
  • Administrative experience at the building level preferred.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working independently; organizing and assigning tasks; enforcing safety procedures and awareness; making judgment decisions and meeting timelines and deadlines.
  • Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English, and verbally in Spanish (preferred). Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patrons or staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to learn and apply new information or new skills.
  • Ability to proficiently use the following programs: Google Suite of programs, MS Word, Excel, email internet applications, social media, and websites.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with diverse staff and others including vendors and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Maintain a cellular phone.
  • Possession of CPR/First Aid certificate desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
Required TestingAny offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

The 2024/25 Administrator Salary Schedule has not yet been finalized. The salary for the 2024/25 school year will be not less than the 2023/24 range, which is $109,303 to $111,500 for a 215-day contract.
