BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN (ABA Therapist)

ABOUT HOPE DISCOVERY ABA SERVICES:

Hope Discovery ABA Services is dedicated to supporting the social, intellectual, behavioral, and verbal growth for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD-NOS). Our approach integrates comprehensive assessments, tailored treatment plans, and parent training with the evidence-based methods of Applied Behavior Analysis in full or part-time center and home program settings.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavior Technician will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with Autism and related developmental disabilities in the home, community, and Zeeland center. The Behavior Technician will collect data on programs developed by the BCBA. The Behavior Technician will be supervised by a BCBA or QBHP at least one hour for every 10 hours of direct therapy per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide direct client care under the supervision of a BCBA or QBHP for at least one hour for every 10 hours of direct service
  • Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior
  • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst
  • Utilize safe & appropriate handling procedures when working with clients
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Assist Behavior Analysts in preparing client materials as instructed
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate expressly/receptively
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and community members
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA laws
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training to perform job responsibilities to required standards
  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols as written
  • Must maintain a professional appearance regarding clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Work up to 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year
  • Ability to lift 25-50lbs
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
  • Occasionally moves about, ascends/descends in confined spaces
  • Constantly positions self-50%
  • Frequently communicates with clients, ability to respond to sounds quickly
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situation
  • Ability to recall important and commonly used information
  • Speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes
  • Vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The majority of work is performed in a home, community, or center environment. Traveling is required for home-based clients
  • The noise level is usually moderate. Air quality is good, and temperature may not be controlled

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Experience working with children ages 0-18 providing in a classroom or 1:1 setting; experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis

EDUCATION:

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: RBT certificate or higher BACB certification

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Complete Online 40-hour training 8 additional online training requirements
  • Evidence of HS diploma
  • CPR/1st Aid Certified; In person w/ dummies

WORKING HOURS:

M – F between 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM depending on client schedule

Location: In the home of your client and/or Zeeland center

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Training: you will receive a combination of one to one training, group training, and job shadowing in order to learn the basics i.e., job expectations, office management/data management software, basic verbal operants, NET, DTE, etc.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.20 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
