About Horizons
Horizons for Homeless Children is hiring a Human Resource Manager to join their team. We are looking for a candidate that is bilingual in English and Spanish. At Horizons each team member is an important part of our mission to improve the lives of young children experiencing homelessness in Massachusetts by providing high-quality early education opportunities for play, and help their families succeed through comprehensive family support services. The HR Department proudly supports this mission and the talented team of 130 employees that makes it happen each day.
Summary of Position
This role directly supports employees through HR systems and processes with compassion, consistency, and creativity to provide responsive and values-aligned HR support and services. This role is responsible for the daily administration of employee relations, HRIS/employee systems, changes in employment, recognition and awards, training and development, performance management, and leadership coaching. And because Horizons employees reflect the community we serve, we have a diverse group of staff who require HR supports in English and Spanish, requiring this role to be bilingual, written and verbal, in both languages.
Where and when you’ll work
This is a 40-hour, full time position that’s exempt from overtime. You can expect to work a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday with up to a maximum of 4 days on site and 1 day working from home during regular business hours after your first month. There will be occasional evening or weekend events with advanced notice. We are located at Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA.
Responsibilities
Establish proactive partnerships and support departments with employee relations concerns, performance management initiatives and change management.
Advise and consult employees in the resolution of employee relations issues by partnering with employees and leaders, administering policies, and recommending effective, scalable solutions for addressing workplace issues.
Conduct investigations as needed, provide accurate and timely responses to concerns, summary reports and determine expedient solutions to ensure fairness and legal compliance.
Acts as a subject matter expert to provide coaching to management of all levels on addressing a variety of people issues while effectively mitigating business and company risk.
Provide developmental training and coaching on employee relations techniques, corrective action and documentation, and performance management best practices to support continuous professional development and drive manager enablement.
Manage people metrics, identify trends and provide insights to improve the employee experience and create materials from HRIS for the Senior Director of HR and Executive Team, identifying key trends behind people data.
Collaborate with HR team to identify, standardize, and implement data & analytics solutions, including enhanced tools and process improvements.
Drive employee engagement, promoting and supporting Horizons’ employee programs and initiatives, including annual employee engagement survey, professional development funds, recognition and milestone awards, ERGs, events, All Staffs, stay/exit interviews, etc.
Lead the annual All Staff event schedule and logistics, including agenda for 3 training days and run of show for 1 awards night, in partnership with HR team.
Coordinate issues relative to compliance, employment law; stay current on HR regulations and notices ensuring compliance across the workplace, including COVID-19 health and safety regulations.
Cultivate and promote a healthy organizational culture both internally and externally, in alignment with the values and mission of Horizons for Homeless Children, championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Support Benefits Administrator and serve as back up when out on vacations and/or leaves.
Partner in the development, enhancement, and execution of HR programs and related organizational initiatives.
Starting salary range, compensation, and benefits
$70,000 – $80,000 is the starting salary range for our Manager level roles with a 4% premium uplift for Bilingual English/Spanish. Your starting salary will fall within that range depending on your competencies, experience, and skillset.

Qualifications
Education & experience
At least 5 years of experience in HR, 3 in Employee Relations
HR certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) a plus.
Experience administering HR systems required, Paycom preferred
Proven track record to assess situations and create innovative solutions
Experience supporting diverse employee populations, particularly multilingual groups
Experience delivering and/or facilitating effective and engaging employee trainings and employee relations solutions
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bilingual in English and Spanish, able to communicate complex HR-related concepts into easy-to-understand information in employee’s native or primary learning language.
Strong commitment to supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and continuous learning and improvement
A strengths-based and mutual respect approach to coaching supervisors in managing workloads, providing appropriate support, and addressing professional development needs.
Able to communicate complicated concepts and processes in simple language that non-HR folks can understand.
Able to partner with HR and managers to effectively manage all types of employee relations cases.
Excellent coaching, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills, including communication, collaboration, case handling, and project management
Experience with various employment law issues such as harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, ethical issues, etc.
Strong customer service orientation.
Motivated self-starter who is comfortable working as part of team and independently.
Previous experience working in nonprofit or education (with teachers) environments is preferred.
