The Environmental Services Technician will work 8 hour shifts and applicants must have the availability to work a matrix schedule - up to 4 shifts per week, including nights and weekends.
Position GoalsThe Environmental Service Technician maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the medical facility. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility. The position distributes and tracks clean linens and maintains stock levels throughout the facility. The position follows standard practices and procedures set for the department as well as outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Policies and Procedures Manual. The position complies with regulatory requirements.
Position ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Environmental Service Manager, the responsibilities of the Environmental Service Technician are, but not limited to:
  • Performs a variety of environmental service duties to maintain the facility in a neat, orderly, and sanitary condition.
  • Responsible for ensuring that contaminated waste products are securely stored and maintaining that storage areas are locked at all times.
  • Cleans and sanitizes floors, equipment and furniture according to infection-control policies.
  • Dusts furniture, woodwork and equipment and dust-mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms. Wet-mops rooms, halls and other areas; shampoos rugs and furniture.
  • Knows proper use, operation and care of equipment; reports any needed repairs and/or safety hazards to manager.
  • Operates mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, snow blowers, shampooers and related environmental service equipment.
  • Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, door frames and other high areas using a ladder.
  • Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags or containers per established procedures.
  • Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
  • Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
  • Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms.
  • Makes supply packs and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution. Takes supply requests and delivers them.
  • Delivers linens according to pre-established par levels and schedules.
  • Distributes emergency supplies as needed.
  • Keeps records of linen distribution; checks linens supply and lists linen use.
  • Keeps work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment and assists with other cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Shovels snow at all exits and ramps.
  • Assists with evacuations, when needed.

Education/ExperienceHigh School Graduate/Equivalent preferred but not required
