Summary
Sets up, operates, and maintains audio/visual equipment as required for facilities’ activities by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
There are four main roles included in A/V work: audio technician, lighting designer, spotlight operator, and stage manager. These roles are expected to be rotated between all A/V staff often. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate audio consoles and deliver clear sound to performers and audience alike.
  • Operate lighting consoles, change color and pattern filters, and aim and focus to exacting specifications for lighting instruments. Change bulbs, batteries, cords, and other parts of lighting equipment.
  • Operate spotlight for events such as concerts and plays. Required to follow instructions from designated personnel who give cues. Ability needed to smoothly follow a moving target on and off stage.
  • Manage stage and backstage elements prior to and during performances, e.g. maintaining communication between stage and control booth, ensuring performers are assembled and aware of time, and adjusting A/V equipment as needed.
  • Set up and control video projection equipment.
  • Use an intercom headset to communicate with other personnel, and work closely in tandem with others to achieve desired goals.
  • Prepare the stage and other items according to individual technical rider specifications. Items may include risers, chairs, video projectors/screens, audio/lighting cables, monitor speakers, etc.
  • Notify the Audio/Visual Supervisor about any equipment or repairs needed.
  • Safely drive the scissor lift on stage.
  • Actively support POA, Managers’, and Director's policies and directions.
  • May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service, making every effort to accommodate customer needs.
  • Ensure the safety of patrons and staff through accident prevention and safety policy, enforcing all facility and recreation location rules and regulations.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, and operational use with regard to POA amenity use.
  • Maintain a safe, clean amenity/facility at all times. Workspaces must be “show-ready” before and after events.
  • Report to the supervisor any safety materials needed or maintenance concerns.


Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, with no exceptions; schedules will be based upon the frequency of events and are subject to change. Must be flexible and willing to change at a moment's notice. Maintain a positive attitude.


Education and/or Experience:
High School degree or equivalent; six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires knowledge of audio and lighting systems. Computer literacy is required.


Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical riders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Requires excellent public relation skills in dealing with artists and presenters.


Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply good judgment and common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Must be able to climb ladders and use catwalks as well as stoop, bend and crawl. Must be able to work at heights of more than 30 feet with safety harness (provided). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Job requires much walking, long periods of sitting or standing, speaking coherently, comprehensive hearing and reading capabilities, clear vision at all distances and accurate color vision.
