Houston Community College Careers is Hiring an Instructional Designer (Grant Funded) Near Houston, TX

Job Summary

The Instructional Designer provides assistance and training to faculty and team members in the application of instructional and interface design of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. Coordinates and collaborates with Master Course Development teams to design and produce quality courses in all modalities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Direct the work and provides leadership to the multimedia, Master Course Development teams and some part-time employees. Coordinate with Master Course Developer to design and produce quality online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses and training materials.

Provide assistance to team members and faculty with instructional and interface design. Assist faculty in the selection of electronic delivery methods, use of instructional software and effective uses of multimedia. Provide troubleshooting assistance on course design problems.

Design and produce learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, and multimedia to support teaching and learning, and College information needs.

Design, develop and deliver workshops and online training to faculty in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices. Offer special session/training to faculty upon department request for select or new software or technologies and pedagogical strategies.

Research innovative and latest trends on educational best practices, instructional resources and technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning, and to assist faculty in the development of new teaching methods.

Research, recommend and participate in decision-making for the purchase of or transition to new software and technology. Keep current with instructional design and ADA web compliance issues.

Participate in training and developmental activities and seminars, as required.

May provide program level support to include working with Deans, instructional leaders and faculty.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Associate’s Degree plus 4 years of formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed may be considered in lieu of required degree
  • 1 year of directly job-related experience working with various operating systems required
  • Experience with instructional design, teaching in an institution of higher education or a community college preferred

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
