POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Corporate Relations Officer (SCRO) is a frontline fundraiser who is responsible for managing a portfolio of corporate donors and prospects, increasing the number and revenue of corporate gifts, assisting in the formulation of strategies to solicit operating and programming gifts, and developing cultivation activities and events along with donor communications to assigned donors. This role works closely with the Director of Institutional Giving. In addition, the SCRO identifies, researches, monitors, and applies for funding opportunities, cultivates prospects, and stewards donors to advance the mission of Houston Food Bank. This role works evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Working with the Director of Institutional Giving, develops a plan and budget for current and prospective major corporate donors.
  2. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of 75-100 donors.
  3. Participates in all aspects of the gift cycle.
  4. Creates customized stewardship strategies for key corporate gift donors.
  5. Initiates and completes donor strategy documents, briefing memos, stewardship/cultivation reports, and other correspondence as necessary.
  6. Ensures that all donor interactions in the portfolio are recorded in Houston Food Bank’s database.
  7. Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
  8. Makes solicitations when appropriate and at the most strategic level of ask.
  9. Maintains stewardship contacts with donors, adheres to the highest ethical standards, demonstrates empathy and a positive attitude, and listens closely to the needs of the donors.
  10. Contributes to annual fundraising goals by managing an increasingly productive portfolio of donors.
  11. Responsible for soliciting gifts of $10,000 and above.
  12. Works with the Development team on special donor events including but not limited to major donor events, cultivation events, and other donor-related activities.
  13. Collaborates with the Senior Manager of Corporate Engagement to optimize corporate volunteer experiences.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business, Public Administration, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated success in securing five and six-figure corporate major gifts with a focus on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.

  • Proficient in Raiser’s Edge or a similar relationship management solution, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse population, including the public and people at all levels
  • Maturity to navigate complex relationships.
  • Knowledge of basic budget procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to write donor proposals, briefing memos, stewardship/cultivation reports, business, and stewardship correspondence.
  • Ability to work as a team member within the fundraising team, supporting department goals.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker that promotes teamwork, creativity, and open communication.
  • Highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships.
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple priority projects with ease and efficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage one's own time efficiently.
  • Integrity, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to articulate the mission of the Houston Food Bank.
  • Strong organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Local travel is required for this position and up to 5% of the time on a domestic basis. Travel may occur during the evening and weekends to attend work-related activities or events.

This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
