JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates and facilitates effective planning and implementation of Student Support Services programs in the areas of Counseling and Psychological Services. Provides leadership for student support services programs and community relations; obtains resources, reviews performance of assigned personnel; and coordinates the implementation of established board policies.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administers, supervises, delegates and coordinates all technical assistance to school-based personnel in planning the implementation and ongoing performance of Counseling, and Psychological Services program support.
• Develops an accountability system to monitor the implementation and performance of Counseling and Psychological Services program, manages programs, and assess performance of employees.
• Consults with Assistant Superintendent of School Support Services, principals, school board members, State Department of Education directors, and curriculum directors regarding implementation of Counseling and Psychological Services programs.
• Evaluates, analyzes, authorizes and approves all aspects of Counseling and Psychological Services program and budgets.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

• Prepares and supervises the preparation of applications for funding of student services by government, foundations and other agencies.
• Reviews state and federal legislation in areas related to students and prepare policy standard practice memoranda as appropriate.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Senior Management. Manages a department or multiple major disciplines, often through subordinate management. Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas.
