Job Description

The Director, Accounting - Americas directs a team of accounting professionals directly and through subordinate managers. Ensures compliance with GAAP and IFRS financial accounting standards. Creates and implements strategies with short to mid-term (1-3 years) impact on business results in alignment with region organization objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Managing a team of three managers with responsibility for leading the three primary functions:
    - An Accounts Payable team.
    - A Payroll team that processes US and Canadian payrolls
    - A Corporate Accounting team which is responsible for monthly consolidated reporting functions for the Contract Logistics Americas entities, IFRS 16 lease accounting, payroll accounting, and corporate SG&A costs
  • Completing month/quarter/year-end close within requirements of corporate close calendar and performing review of all corporate cost centers as well as completing analytical review by legal entity of income statement and balance sheet
  • Partnering with Treasury to manage cash flows.
  • Working with Business Controllers to review welfare benefit accounting including self-funding healthcare and WC reserves.
  • Overseeing and directing mid-year and year-end audit for CL Americas entities
  • Research new technical accounting standards and oversee implementation of new standards and statutory requirements.
  • Developing annual departmental budget and maintaining financial discipline in managing budgeted costs.
  • Providing recommendations and implementing overall organization structure and strategic direction ensuring appropriate processes are being followed and applicable internal controls are in place.
  • Building strong cross-functional relationships with other departments to achieve goals, drive productivity, collaboration, accountability, innovative thinking and reduce overall operating costs.
  • Develops department goals, staffing strategy, performance reviews, developmental activities, hiring, onboarding, and training of new hires.
  • Assist with the implementation and reporting of the new accounting standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
OTHER

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 10 years of experience in progressive leadership role within finance and accounting; 5 years of experience managing exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Demonstrated skills in leading teams and developing people.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • In-depth knowledge of business and accounting processes
  • Experience with SAP is a plus. ERP accounting system experience is a must.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS rules and regulations.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) required.
  • Working knowledge of Worker's compensation reserves, self-funded healthcare, and accounting for payroll and welfare benefits
  • Proficiency with MS Excel to include spreadsheets with large data sets, formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions.
