The Member Strength Manager will identify and assemble resources to assist in the leadership development needs of the union, further develop and coordinate the Member Leadership Academy (MLA), and function as liaison to the Together We Rise (TWR) program.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Member Strength

• Coordinate the design, components, development and implementation of the union-wide Member Strength program (or MLA)
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure SEIU members have increased and meaningful involvement in the primary goals of the union
• Submit TWR reports
• Other duties, as assigned.

Leadership Development

• Create a pool of skilled and knowledgeable member leaders and staff that are productive, creative, and ready to hit the ground running regardless of campaign
• Develop MLA curriculum in field organizing, membership growth, cope, and representation
• Enhance member and staff skills by introducing new tools and methods in organizing which are centered on social justice, cultural inclussion, and educate through a racial justice lens

• Coordinate and research information for proposed trainings and projects

Member Leadership Academy

• Direct MLA program
• Manage MLA budget

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Facilitates, educates, develops, and mentors member leaders identified for the MLA program.

SUPERVISION

The Member Strength Manager reports directly to the Internal Organizing Director.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Strong computer skills including the suite of Microsoft Office and Google products
• A variety of research methods (interview, computer-based, etc.)
• Basic financial concepts

Ability to:

• Exercise good judgment, discern priorities and meet competing deadlines
• Analyze bargaining agreements and determine implications for employers or members.
• Work independently in a competent and professional manner while following SEIU's overall goals and expectations
• Work with diverse staff within a labor organization
• Handle confidential information
• Write and verbally communicate at a professional level
• Work long and irregular hours when needed to meet campaign demands
• Work under tight deadlines and in a team environment

• Speak and/or write other languages than English, Spanish preferred

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or prior experience in the same field.

Experience:

• 4 years of supervising staff or its equivalent
• 5 years of union organizing
• Curriculum development and implementation
