Responsibilities:
Maintains the dignity / confidentiality of the patient, serves as a patient advocate
Verifies the identification of the patient using two identifiers
Verifies physician order before performing testing; reviews pertinent clinical data
Explains procedure to patient in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety
Select, assemble, check for proper function and operation of equipment for use in measurement of brain/heart activity
Is able to troubleshoot equipment
Ensures all infection control policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
Ascertain the patient's ability to cooperate with activation procedures
Cleans and disinfects electrodes and equipment after each patient's use
Maintains equipment and replenishes supplies as necessary.
For EKGS makes sure that all leads are in proper placements
Assures that the tracings have no artifacts in them and the critical readings are read immediately by the Attending, House, or ED Physician
Logs the EKG in the spreadsheet and distributes after they are read and scans EKGs into EMR
Performs venous and capillary blood collections for laboratory testing
Evaluates specimens to determine suitability for testing
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent/ College degree preferred
One year hospital or medical office experience preferred
BLS - AHA Approved required
