Hudson Valley Community College is Hiring a Student Financial Services Advisor Near Troy, NY

Student Financial Services Advisor

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree with 3 years of experience in a higher education setting, two years of Financial Aid or Student Accounts OR a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience of Financial Aid or Student Accounts. Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service skills required. Strong attention to detail; ability to multi-task and manage priorities; strong computer skills required. Competent with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Ellucian Banner System preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties:

The Student Financial Services Advisor reports to an Assistant Director of Student Financial Services/Associate Bursar or designee and provides support to the Director of Student Financial Services as needed.

The Student Financial Services Advisor performs the following duties:

  • Counsels and advises students and parents on all aspects related to student accounts/financial aid.
  • Assists with the administration of one or more federal, state, or institutional financial aid programs, evaluating Financial Aid applications in order to determine student eligibility for various financial aid programs, and collecting data and keeping accurate records.
  • Coordinates front office/counter operations, phone and computer lab coverage, including supervision of Student Financial Services Specialists/Technical Assistants, and Federal Work study staff in all functions, as needed.
  • Services as the liaison between Student Financial Services and Athletics, EOP, ASAP, and Veteran Student populations. Providing status consistent updates to these departments and their respective students.
  • Conducts information meetings on and off campus to ensure awareness of all financial aid opportunities for student and/or parent groups, both prior to admission and during the academic year, requiring occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Assists students with completion of financial aid applications and/or with making payment; identifies outstanding documentation and provides clear and thorough communication regarding status of financial aid applications and steps required to confirm registration.
  • Reviews Certificate of Residence application submissions.
  • Collaborates with Assistant/Associate Directors to ensure smooth operation of the department by providing input on internal and external policies, procedures, regulations, and internal processes and provides assessments of the overall student financial services experience.
  • Assist with processes and procedures related to Federal and State Grant and Loan programs as well as internal and external scholarship awarding.
  • Assists students at the counter, by telephone and in the computer lab with questions regarding application completion, financial aid status, student account status, and be a source of conflict resolution when issues require escalation.
  • Assists Assistant/Associate Directors in determining applicant eligibility as well as reconciliation of fund accounts, and daily review of data integrity reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a full-time 37.5-hour work week positions with a salary range of $42,500.00-$44,500.
