Summary of Duties

The Physician will provide high-quality treatment, diagnostic, and medical care to Native Hawaiians and community members under the supervision of the Medical Director. Services will be delivered in office, mobile settings, and telehealth capacities, following guidelines set by the Medical Director, Executive Director, and Board of Directors. Responsibilities include assessing and diagnosing patients, prescribing appropriate medications and health regimens, and promoting healthier lifestyles to prevent and treat health issues. The role may require availability during evenings and weekends.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide care to clients with appropriate discretion and independent judgment. Respond promptly during crises or emergencies to support clients' health, safety, and welfare.
  2. Demonstrate passion for diagnostic services and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  3. Assist in developing and managing Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities for HMONO.
  4. Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when necessary.
  5. Complete all necessary clinical documentation within 72 hours of patient encounters.
  6. Analyze reports, test results, medical records, and examinations to diagnose patient conditions and propose treatment options.
  7. Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens for identified medical conditions.
  8. Provide lifestyle advice and refer patients to RDN for diet advice to improve patients' health or treat health issues.
  9. Maintain current licensure and certificates as required.
  10. Maintain after-hours availability for on-call activities.
  11. Maintain pharmaceuticals (sample and stock medications) for access and tracking.
  12. Supervise medical students, resident physicians, and other health professionals at the clinical site.
  13. Assist the Medical Director in supervising and coordinating clinical staff activities.
  14. Participate in and provide direction and supervision for HMONO programs and projects, as discussed with the Medical Director.
  15. Assist the Medical Director in establishing and implementing HMONO and Family Medicine Clinic goals, objectives, and policies.
  16. Adhere to the Physician Employment agreement requirements.
  17. Attend meetings as required.
  18. Ensure compliance with regulations and with clinic standards for quality patient care.
  19. Comply with Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA) and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, and all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  20. Maintain complete, timely, and legible medical records.
  21. Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and other providers.
  2. Communicate effectively, with sensitivity to patients' communication abilities.
  3. Complete complex forms, maintain accurate and timely records, and prepare detailed reports.
  4. Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Understand Native Hawaiian issues, practices, culture, history, and current events.
  6. Have thorough knowledge of local and state medical resources and general medical terminology.

Supervision

  1. Reports to: Medical Director/ Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education
    1. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine degree.
    2. Completion of an internship or residency at an accredited recognized institution.
  2. Experience
    1. Two (2) years of experience as a practicing physician or completion of primary care residency program.
    2. Experience prescribing medications, treatments, and health regimens.
    3. Experience working collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals.
  3. Other
    1. Must acquire approved credentialing status and be recognized as a participating provider in the Federal Health Care programs including, without limitation, Medicare, Medicaid, MedQuest, and all health plans with Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi participates.
    2. Must be able to acquire or be covered under a Malpractice and Professional Liability insurance policy.
    3. Must possess a valid Hawaiʻi driver's license and obtain First Aid and CPR/AED training immediately upon employment. (certifications must remain current at all times.)

    7. Reliable and insured vehicle
    8. COVID-19 vaccination
    9. No convictions of a crime within the past 10 years related to the duties of this position.
    10. Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  1. Certification
    1. Must possess current license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaiʻi, board certification in the State of Hawaiʻi.
    2. Current Federal and State Narcotics Certification
    3. Board-certified in Family Medicine or related field.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Familiar with HMONO's mission, programs, and services.
