Position Overview:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and works closely with the CEO in guiding and leading HRCI. As part of the ELT, the COO drives the development of the organization’s strategic goals. The COO will have multiple functional areas of responsibility including Product Development (learning-editorial build), Governance and Business Planning, Organizational Certifications (HRSI), Human Resources, Customer Service. This position will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations as well as the strategic components of functional areas while leading and managing multiple teams. The successful incumbent has executive and operational experience with a proven track record of creative problem solving. With input and oversight from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will implement the HRCI strategic plan through the development and execution of annual operating plans. The successful incumbent has extensive operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management to join in a high-growth, fast-paced organization.

Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Function as a member of the ELT and may represent the CEO at internal and external meetings, as requested.
  • Work in close collaboration with the CEO to drive the development of HRCI’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall day-to-day management of functional areas of responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with HRCI ELT to develop and nurture strategic relationships.
  • Lead enterprise-wide projects.
  • With input and oversight from the CEO implement horizon plan, annual business plan through informed development and execution of operating plans.
  • Work closely with the CFO and ELT to monitor financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters. Exercise sound financial judgment and management of resources within areas of responsibility that enable the organization to operate consistent with sound budgeting practices. 
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication with ELT and LT, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues.
  • Working closely with Chief Revenue & Learning Officer (CRLO) to enable revenue growth and other key revenue-producing programs.

Team Development/Leadership

  • Oversee internal office operations to include Product Development (Learning-editorial build), Governance and Business Planning, Organizational Certifications (HRSI), Human Resources, Call Center operations.
  • Function as “cultural ambassador” and “change expert” with a strong commitment to advancing the organization’s desired culture.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Motivate and inspire staff with the proper level of direction, urgency, and support to facilitate their success.
  • Monitor staff performance and goal development. Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and evaluate results.

The Skills You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required); Masters’ Degree highly desirable, in a business-related field Business or, a master’s in business administration is preferred
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in a senior management role gained in a high-growth organization
  • Experience managing profit & loss business lines required
  • Knowledge of certification development and administration highly desirable
  • HR or Business credential (i.e. SPHR, GPHR, CAE) preferred
