Humane Society of Citrus County is Hiring a Kennel Technician Near Inverness, FL

KENNEL TECHNICIAN

If you are someone who loves animals and feels at home when you can help support a pet who has been cast aside by their family and needs physical and emotional support, then we need you! The Humane Society of Citrus County needs a compassionate caregiver to join our team as a Kennel Technician, making sure our rescued dogs and cats are safe, cared for and supported while they await their forever home.

** $13 - $15 / hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience **

** PTO after 90 days (prorated in first year) **

Position Summary of Kennel Technician

A Kennel Technician is involved with all aspects of running a kennel for dogs and cats, which may include cleaning of the facilities, feeding, medicating and maintaining all supplies necessary for the health and cleanliness of the animals in our care.

Our Kennel Technician will typically work three days a week, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. However, work schedules may include rotating weekends and holidays. When working on a holiday, Technicians earn 1.5x their regular rate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Kennel Technicians:

  • Manage animals humanely, properly, safely and with compassion at all times, including those that may be sick, injured, or scared.
  • Inspect, feed and care for all dogs and cats housed at the shelter.
  • Contribute to ensuring proper nutrition, bathing/grooming (including nail trimming), and exercise for the animals.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of the animals by administering medications as directed and following procedures. Monitor food and water intake and overall condition of each animal, notifying management immediately upon noticing any changes.
  • Advise management when supplies are needed, as well as reporting anything that needs repair or attention.
  • Clean inside and outside kennels, cat rooms, enclosures, and litter boxes. Maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary environment for all animals is the ultimate goal.
  • Collaborate with management and other team members concerning the daily operations and maintenance of the kennel facility.

Kennel Technician Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent is preferred although work experience showing capabilities in the animal industry field and ability to follow verbal and written instructions can be considered as equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of basic animal medical and behavioral needs including knowledge of animal health problems and basic veterinary functions.
  • Flexibility in work schedules when asked to cover for other Technicians for vacations/ sick time, etc.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift 50-pound bags of animal food and related supplies.
  • Must be able to be on your feet for most of your shift.
  • Must be able to control and manage dogs occasionally weighing more than 100 pounds.
  • The ability to groom dogs is a plus.

  • Dependability – Commits to long hours of work when necessary and fills in during absences of others when asked.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 24 per week
