The Shelter Veterinarian will lead the organization's efforts to provide high-quality veterinary care to all animals served by the organization. This position will ensure that animals in HSDC's care receive preventative medical care, prompt diagnosis and treatment, and relief from pain & suffering. The Shelter Veterinarian will be responsible for overseeing the care of individual animals while maintaining the overall health of all shelter animals. This position will also provide high-volume spay/neuter surgery and other soft tissue surgeries.
Supervise clinic medical staff to include RVT's and clinic assistants. Establish medical protocols and guidelines for the care, nutrition and welfare of animals, with a focus on minimizing animal stress and decreasing length of stay.
Perform intake exams, administer vaccines, perform dental cleanings and extractions.
Maintain current license as DVM to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio; qualified and eligible to obtain DEA license for shelter use.
This position is designed for the veterinarian that likes autonomy, is comfortable working as the sole practioner, and is willing to develop a high-functioning team.
