About the Role:
As a Professional Engineer (PE), you will play a pivotal role in performing civil and geotechnical engineering duties in support of the design, construction, and management of public and private projects. You will have functional supervision over assigned personnel and work in a professional environment to expand your skill set into other areas of development.
Position Summary:
The Professional Engineer (PE) will be responsible for preparing reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil improvements on various projects. You will manage the development of water systems, septic systems, or storm management facilities, and liaise with professional staff such as architects and structural engineers. Additionally, you will monitor and inspect work undertaken by contractors and administer both private and public works for bid contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Report Preparation: Prepare reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil improvements on projects ranging from residential to industrial.
System Development: Design, permit, inspect, and manage the development of water systems, septic systems, or storm management facilities.
Material Selection: Select, monitor, and inspect appropriate construction materials for use in projects.
Regulatory Approval: Work with agencies and clients to obtain planning and building regulation approval.
Professional Liaison: Liaise with architects, structural engineers, and other professional staff.
Contractor Oversight: Monitor and inspect work undertaken by contractors.
Project Management: Administer and manage private and public works for bid contracts and project components.
Field Problem Solving: Assist in solving field problems in conjunction with Project and Construction Managers.
Technical Reporting: Prepare technical reports concerning different disciplines within Civil Engineering.
Traffic Studies: Perform traffic studies to determine existing and projected level of service (LOS) standards on roads and intersections for project development.
General Duties: Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
What You Bring:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training, or the ability to obtain Washington state registration within one year of hire and maintain throughout employment.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience including project design and construction management.
  • Experience in performing engineering computations and preparing engineering designs.
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting programs (such as AutoCAD).
  • Experience in preparing reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil improvements on various projects.
  • Sufficient experience to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Ability to pass a federal background check and work on public works projects.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting programs.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and standards for design, bidding, and construction.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Communication Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with professional staff and clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Washington State Energy Code compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and phone systems (Mitel).
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing or walking. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be occasionally exposed to machinery with moving parts.
