As a Scrum Master:

What you will do:

  • Mentor, coach, and guide Developers, Product Owners, stakeholders, leadership, and the organization to understand Scrum, Kanban, and business agility.
  • Support and enable Product Owners in Backlog Refinement practices, multiple horizon planning, and establishing an ordered Product Backlog aligned with business goals.
  • Assist and mentor Product Owners in their accountabilities for Backlog Management and facilitate effective Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, Refinement sessions, and other interactions on an as-needed basis. You will also be expected to reduce the team’s reliance on your facilitation over time.
  • Empower team members to size and sequence work, define testing scenarios, and make decisions about their work.
  • Collaborate with Tech, Quality, and Engineering leads to drive decisions down into the team, fostering engagement and innovation.
  • Facilitate purpose-driven Scrum Events that demonstrate the empiricism of Scrum.
  • Facilitate timely team decisions while assisting with impediments to the team's progress.
  • Maintain and improve team working agreements to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Ensure data hygiene in team workflow tools, such as Jira and Azure DevOps, by verifying accurate and complete data attributes for reliable reporting.
  • Develop expertise in workflow tools like Azure DevOps, Jira, and associated tools so that you may more easily assist the team.
  • Support Product Owners in product inception and planning techniques to incorporate the customer's perspective in day-to-day work.
  • Visualize and address dependencies in their work.
  • Use workflow tools, data, and visualizations to enable improved forecasting and reporting as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management to ensure product strategy drives delivery efforts.
  • Actively contribute, perhaps even lead, a Community of Practice around agility, mentoring others, and sharing best practices.

Additional Qualifications Include:

  • Established background as a Scrum Master or similar role for engineering or technical teams is preferred.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong organizational skills and a high degree of individual initiative and personal accountability.
  • Excellent time-management and personal agility skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills that can engage, influence, and inspire others, fostering collaboration and alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Scrum Master certifications such as PSM II, PSPO-A, A-CSM, CSP, etc.
  • Kanban certifications such as PSK, PK1, TKP or KMP
  • Leadership credentials, including PAL, PAL-EBM, CAL, etc.
  • Coaching certifications
  • Facilitation or complementary skill education or credentials
  • Project Management Institute: PMI-ACP
