Hunton Andrews Kurth is Hiring a Sr Business Immigration Paralegal Near Washington, DC

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a Sr. Business Immigration Paralegal in our Washington office. This position provides sophisticated technical and substantive support to lawyers on the preparation of complex legal documents, technical legal research issues, and other advanced tasks related to the immigration practice area. Trains and mentors other paralegals and case clerks and coordinates the delegation of work to same. Provides leadership in supporting firm, office and team initiatives and in support of management directives.

RESPONSBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Prepare and finalize petitions and applications independently, to include:
    1. NIV (H-B, L-, E-2/3, TN, O-, dependent applications);
    2. IV (EB/2/3/NIW and family-based); and
    3. PERM applications.
  2. Actively participate in case intake and strategy, including research on appropriate SOC classifications and use of private wage surveys.
  3. Maintain timely communications with client contacts (employees, managers, and HR representatives) via email, phone, and video calls as necessary.
  4. Monitor relevant expiration reports and timely initiate renewal processes.
  5. Balance workload across multiple attorneys, with the guidance of practice advisors.
  6. Opportunities to work on pro bono matters, if desired.
  7. Performs special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification or specialty certificate provided by State preferred.
  2. Experience: Minimum of seven years of paralegal experience, with a minimum of five years’ experience in business immigration with broad experience across the range of NIV/IV case types including PERM. Previous experience coordinating and mentoring paralegals and support staff preferred.
  3. Other Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge and application of Federal, State, and Local Rules. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic technological and research skills necessary to pull requested documents from online resources and familiarity with legal technology and computer databases required. Must have ability to train other paralegals and work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and present a positive, professional image with colleagues, professional staff, and vendors. Ability to work overtime or travel, as needed, on short notice essential. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The expected salary range for Washington, DC based employees is $106,800 to $168,600, though salaries for employees based outside of Washington, DC may differ. Beyond an employment candidate's physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, training and/or experience.
