Huntsville College Preparatory School (HCPS) is seeking a passionate and innovative High School English Teacher to educate and inspire students in grades 9-12. The successful candidate will foster a love for literature, writing, and critical thinking while addressing the individual needs of students, including those with learning differences. This role emphasizes small class sizes, collaborative learning, and the development of communication skills that prepare students for academic and personal success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver an engaging English Language Arts curriculum aligned with school and state standards.
- Teach courses such as American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Creative Writing, and Composition.
- Foster students’ analytical and critical thinking skills through the exploration of literature and non-fiction texts.
- Guide students in developing effective writing skills, including essays, research papers, and creative projects.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and styles of all students.
- Regularly assess student progress through assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams, providing constructive feedback.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages discussion, creativity, and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-disciplinary initiatives and school-wide events.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about students’ progress and areas for growth.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts.
- Experience teaching high school students; experience with students with learning differences is a plus.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, colleagues, and parents.
