The Diabetes Educator identifies patient needs and priorities for education used on assessment. Patient population includes those from small children to the elderly. The educator plans, implements and evaluates all programs and services administered by the Diabetes Control Center. The educator coordinates the educational care between other professional disciplines as needed.
Education required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required
Education preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
License, certification and/or registration: Current Alabama or Multistate Nursing license with the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Require dietetic registration and licensure or nursing licensure within provisional period. Must be working toward CDCES certification in diabetes education within provisional period. Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator within 2 years of hire.
Experience: 2 years experience in the field of diabetes care and education is preferred
Additional skills/abilities: Effective verbal and written skills. Ability to communicate with people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
